For all those that think Antonio is a more mature and changed man since he got out from big ole' meanie Bill Parcell's doghouse ... nope. He's was the same old Antonio Bryant under Crennel that he was with Parcells. And Campo. And Walt Harris.

Savage also is wise enough not to be conned by Antonio Bryant's 69 catches. His 14 drops and games in which he seemed discouraged and disinterested are reason enough to point him to free agency and wish him luck elsewhere.

http://www.ohio.com/mld/ohio/sports/football/nfl/cleveland_browns/13931247.htm

Not hard to read between the lines with Savage’s quotes today in the Cleveland Plains Dealer…

Bryant's agent, Lamont Smith, confirmed to The Plain Dealer two weeks ago the Browns have not tried to re-sign the 1,000-yard receiver.

Savage said the Browns want to replace Bryant with a veteran receiver in free agency. He declined to comment on pursuing Cleveland native Joe Jurevicius, whose contract is up in Seattle.

"That's something we're looking into, trying to bring more of a professional demeanor, a professional quality, to that [receivers'] room," Savage said.

Also, although the Patriots still have until 3 PM today to do it, it seems unlikely to put the franchise tag on Vinatieri. They don’t want to pay him franchise money. The best they can hope for is to get him locked up to a long term deal before free agency opens at the end of next week, but that appears unlikely since they’ve been negotiating a long term deal for the past two years with no avail. Its unlikely they hammer one out in 7 days with no CBA in place.

The Providence Journal proceeds to connect the dots.

He's played his entire career with the Patriots and is one of the team's best-liked players. If he hits the open market, Vinatieri is almost certain to be contacted by the Dallas Cowboys. Bill Parcells, the Cowboys head coach, initially signed Vinatieri back in 1995 when he was coaching the Patriots. Dallas has had kicking woes the last few seasons.

It's called coaching.

I have to go by what I see and hear, I saw a more mature Bryant on the field, and heard nothing.

And I guess it just so happens that Bryant has never had a good coach, since he's been a jackass for every single coach he's played under since college. He's really been unlucky.

I see the Browns showing Antontio the door (with an NFL leading $25 million under the cap to play with) and I just heard Savage say he wants more a more professional attitude from the position. That's what I see and hear.

I guess that means you didn't see enough games or spend much time in the Browns locker room to here anything.

The only game I was able to catch AB got two quick personal fouls near the end of the game (Bengals?) taking the Browns out of FG rang that could have tied it up and send the game into over time.

Face it he is a high strung hot head that needs to grow up.

I like Bryant's talent, unfortunately his attitude out weighs the production to the negative side......good luck on another team!

Sounds more to me like they want a positive Vet influence on B Edwards and AB is not that for sure.

Braylon has a me complex too if I remeber correctly so I see it more as you need to get one of those guys out of there and it is certainly not going to be Edwards.

He was a jack*** way before getting into the NFL. Bad rep in college, bad rep now. Just imagine what his personality would blossom into if he hadn't dropped those 15 passes and quit on 74 pass plays where his name wasn't called? Can you say "TO on BrainRoids"?

Talent has never been an issue. Committment has. Bryant will be a loser for all his days because he is undisciplined and mentally weak. Classic example of being a product of your raising...actions don't lie and people rarely change in adulthood...sometimes, but rarely. His attitude will never get him more than second or third receiver or MAYBE interest from a team (for #1 receiver) out of desperation.

Not true. Yes he wants to be the main guy, if thats what you mean. He had issues with Loyd Carr, the first two years at Michigan, mostly because I think he had maturity issues. But last two years, especially his Senior, he was a leader on that team.

I would think, if anyone, its their TE that might need some veteran leadership to work with.

I said that more for something he said last year before the draft more than anything else. I really don't even remember exactly what it was but it just left me with a bad impression of him.

The Browns are building the right way. Crennel has a lot of skins on his wall. Savage seems like a bright guy. They have no need to put up with an annoying prima donna that drops a lot of balls.

Guys like AB are becoming closer to the norm than the exception in our society. From a young age an athlete with talent is coddled, excused and protected from taking any responsibilty for his actions. And yet when the cannon goes off over and over we all seem surprised and many rush to the player's defense (shake of head). Good for the Browns.

Warning lights went up with me about Braylon Edwards when she showed up for the Draft in a brand new $170,000 Bentley before he had even signed his contract. I think most of these holdout and contract demands from players under contract are from guys who are in over their head in debt. I have a close friend who was a bankruptcy lawyer in Dallas for several years, and he used to tell me you would be surprised how many million dollar professional athletes have to file for Chapter 11 before they're even out of the league. I don't think its any coincidence that Terrel Owens had to put two of his houses up for sale at about the same time that he started causing disruptions about a new contract in Philly.

Savage's track record is well established. He was the head of player personnel department for the Ravens that drafted 10 Pro Bowlers under his tenure.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Vianeteri. I thought there was absolutely no way the Patriots would let him on the market. Looks like a very real possibility now.

Ya think somebody else might have had just a little to do with those Raven drafts?
This is Savage's first test calling the shots, we'll see how he does.

Yeah, the rest of the scouting department ... that he headed.

Is dismissing Phil Savage's track record really all the ammo you have left in defending Antonio Bryant? Yikes.

I will admit I wondered if BP did the right thing by cutting AB. I always thought that AB just needed a little more time.

However, when a player is going on his 3rd team in less than five years there is a problem.

It's really the only card left he can play because his original premise that Bryant has been well behaved on the field is patently false.

He was a malcontent on the field in every way, shape and form. He was in verbal altercations with his QB, his assistant coach just about anyone without the power to ship him out of town (I guess he has learned at least one thing in the NFL -- don't take on the head guy just everyone else). I'll have to go back and check to be 100%, but I believe he led NFL WRs in personal foul penalties also.

You brought Savage into the conversation, not me. You just seem to forget who was the guy calling the shots for the Ravens, no big deal.

I said, I did not see or hear anything bad from AB this past year, can you show me something?

The fact is a team with receiver head cases like Edwards and Winslow, and no QB, can't afford to take a chance on AB. But somebody will.

Examples of his stupidity and immaturity have already been offered. THIS past season. The 2 PF's, and several OTHER incidents happened THIS PAST SEASON. He is still a stupid turd.
