Been on this board a long time. Been reading post after post for years about how Jones and the Cowboys neglect the OL and thats why they cant win championships. In the last few seasons I saw our OL definitely cost us one postseason game, and was a major factor in losing another. We dont try to focus on OL building in the draft, or have to waste too mcuh money on free agents.

Fast forward to about 930 or so tonight. We take the top rated OL with the 9th pick of the draft. A guy who can probably start immediately at either OT position. Not only that, said guy is only 20 yrs old and is just beginning to fill out.

And people complain.

Amazing. Makes you wonder what game some people are watching.

That surprises you? Seems par for the course.

Honestly I'm not surprised.

But it is interesting the way people act here.

Here's the question I posted in another thread:

I know I'm a little late to the party and this topic was probably covered in another thread, but I'm wondering why the Cowboys couldn't have pulled the trade w/J'ville?

Does anyone know the details - if any - of the offer?

I'm not saying OL was a bad pick in the first rd., but I just wish the Cowboys had more picks w/so many needs (unless of course we have faith in the FA market). Plus, the fact Smith had a scope on his knee makes me wonder if he would have stuck around till later in the first

I know he was a lot of people's #1 OL prospect, but if I recall correctly it was based primarily on potential.

Just asking

______________

I'm not trying to be a nay-sayer, I'm just curious

People want us to be the Detroit Lions...

Fact is we won today. We got protection for Romo, and with the weapons we have our offense is going to take a step up.

Its a process. Its not only the draft, but free agency as well.

There's a lot more going down before training camp.... we still have court issues btw.

"interesting" might not be my first choice for a word to describe it but yeah... it's "interesting" all right.

Please remember where you are posting this... :laugh2:

There's really not much complaining. In fact, in an earlier thread, someone was saying there was about as little complaining about this pick as any first rounder he could remember, and several people agreed.

A couple of people shouting loud doesn't mean most people are unhappy.

Don't get me wrong, here. I love the pick. With Free and Smith, the Cowboys potentially have a great pair of book end tackles for the next decade. But do you really think he's ready to start immediately? He seems a little young, and tackle can be a difficult position to learn.

Some people want that "sexy" pick. Well, this pick was plenty sexy for me. It keeps Romo upright for a LONG TIME. And it gives him time to find Miles, Dez, and Witten. And even more, we can run a screen to either side of the field with Free and Smith leading the way.

Honestly, this pick will probably do the same if not more for our offense than Dez did last year.

And to be fair, is it the same people who were complaining about the Oline who are complaining about the pick?

People would complain no matter who we chose when. I wanted Peterson but so did the team picking 5. I applaud our team for its restraint in staying put and drafting a consensus top tackle with upside. Fine with not being the lead story and making a smart pick. Also happy to be done with the "we should've tanked the final game" crowd. That was most difficult to stomach of all.

Tyron is sexy, just look at that chest.

Well that is the plan per Jerry on the PC.

Now there are always things that could happen that might prevent it...but that seems to be the plan for right now.

I'll go on record saying I would have preferred Fairley, simply because I think he's going to be a beast. But I'm OK with the pick. We needed an offensive linemen, and if Dallas rated him as clearly the best, like Houck said, then it was a good choice. ... And he doesn't seem like he'll be hard to manage like Fairly might.

Some people are just plain dumb, do not let it bother you, they will never "get it"!

I don't think people are complaining about taking a tackle, only who we took and where we took him. Would you be complaining if we took Sherrod at #9? How many people would be complaining if we had traded down with Jacksonville, picked up a 2nd and still got one of the top offensive linemen?
