Video: Interview with George Iloka

Around 27:00 min mark

Wow a lot of nuggets, first one I found was Chido told Iloka in an interview that he always played nickel C/S in college. Barely play outside CB until we drafted him, what a JG and company move to switch a guys position lol.

I’m listening to it now will update with topics and time stamps

That would be so appreciated boss!

George Edwards and his blitzes packages in Minnesota. In terms of blitzing specifically, Minn always drew up blitzes so one man was rushing free, the Cowboys draw up blitzes that still emphasis the D-line winning. Said Edwards was a defensive genius and was Zimmer’s right hand man. (Played in Minnesota)

I feel good about our defensive coaches.

I know the guys who only care about stats don’t like him but when I watched how his defenses played I thought they were impressive.

Sometimes you just don’t have the guys to get it done.

The Cowboys defense just needs to throw some things at the QB and be more aggressive.

Find a balance of when to play soft and when to attack.

We knew that at draft time. And it's why Chido is very likely moving to Safety.
It's not that he's a bad CB; he just doesn't have an island CB mentality.

He is a great athlete that makes plays.

Iloka stated he tried to move up into the box as a decoy during practice and Richard went nuts telling him to fall back.
He said "Oh, I got it we are playing the tell them what we are doing scheme."

And he's right.
For all the slander Rod took, the defense took a dive once teams knew Richard was calling the pass defense because it really never changed.

Ilokas knowledge of Nolan’s scheme in relation to Safeties responsibilities. Info based on guys he knew on the Saints and general NFL knowledge on Nolan.

I think it's pretty clear based on the type of safeties (and corners) that we've got that Nolan prefers more of two-deep coverage with his corners playing press man.

Asked if he felt this was Rod’s D of KR’s and he said Richards. Said Rod would start meeting then hand it over to Kris and let him run it. Marinelli was in charge of D-line and stunts.
What an absolute cluster. Has it ever been determined who came up with this arrangement? Were they trying to recreate the Wade/Jason dysfunction days?

Why can't the local reporters actually do some legwork instead of just being PC note-takers and puff piece writers?

Stuff about chido changing positions is nothing shocking... every NFL team does it

it would like folks complaining that Zach Martin played tackle at ND and we kicked him inside to guard and wasting his talents that could be playing tackle for us
