NFL Network generates a lot of discussion during this slowest point in the offseason by listing the Top 100 players in the league. It’s a worthwhile endeavor, but it also has generated plenty of criticism.

So we decided that, in lieu of continuing to criticize it, we would just do our list. So that we too could be criticized.

The problem with the NFL Network list is that it surveys only NFL players, many of whom openly acknowledge that they don’t take it seriously. The players who vote are asked only to list their own top 20.

So we assembled a group of members of the NFL media, and we asked them to identify their top 50 (not 20) players each. The panelists were Kevin Acee of U-T San Diego, Paul Allen of KFAN and the Viking Radio Network, Anthony Becht of PFT on NBCSN, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, PFT on NBCSN producer Matt Casey, Tom Curran of CSN New England, Mike Dempsey of 1010XL in Jacksonville, Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times, Mike Freeman of CBSSports.com, Bob Glauber of Newsday, Tim Graham of the Buffalo News, Tony Grossi of ESPNCleveland.com...and more.

No. 100-76 will be unveiled later today.

So instead of around 500 players voting, we'll get 38 media members voting.

Instead of voting for the top 20 players (which was ridiculed because it was for a top 100 list), we'll get media members voting for the top 50 players (which is still not 100).

Works for me *thumbsup*

If they're just doing it for last year, you can, and easily...

What I think is more interesting with these types of lists is the order of ranking for each position, not the order of ranking for all positions. It will be interesting to see the final order of QB, RB, CB, etc.

I think some of you guys really underestimate how bad Romo was at the beginning of last year.

The issue is he's also single-handedly given away games. Chicago, NYG and Washington... that's a fifth of your season that was lost directly due to Romo going haywire. The NFL season is only 16 games, giving away 3 like that is hard for any team to overcome.

Romo can be great, in fact most of the time he is... but he's got the jekyll and hyde complex... and for whatever reason Mr. Hyde likes to show up on primetime television.

Become more consistent and the success/respect will come.

You mean at the beginning of the yr when Dallas had a wr who didnt know what routes to run, a wr who couldnt run because of his hamstrings, and te who had an injured spleen and a OL who had lost its C and couldnt form a running attack? Youre right right i stand corrected
