I'm interested in getting an iPhone, been waiting a long time for it to come out for Verizon.

Is texting free or included in the mandatory plan for the iPhone?

Not sure on verizon. But on AT&T you pay for big chucnks of texts. I think i pay like $5 for like 200. Plenty for me.

I'm on a family plan and it costs my dad $30 a month for unlimited texting/pic/flix messages for my phone, his phone and my brothers phone. I don't know if they still offer that rate as my friends pay $20 for unlimited texting/pic/flix for just 1 phone

Just go to verizonwireless.com to find out. I did a quick run through and it looks like unlimited text is included in the Family Share plans.
