I've use programs like this in the past to rip DVDs to mp4s.

That was a couple of years ago, so there may be better programs out there right now. I'd google "DVD ripper program" and see what comes up and compare the various features.

I think some of the programs are even free.

Some of the stuff I've ripped, I've noticed that over time the audio and video gets out of synch and that gets too annoying so I end up deleting it and re-ripping. I'm not technologically savvy enough to understand why that happens or how to prevent it.

But I have downloaded many movies using these dvd ripper programs and they work decently well.

It seems the greater majority of “DVD Converter” software simply does not work as promised. In almost all cases they had slow conversion speeds, could not convert to common formats, and gave an end product where the audio did not line up with the video!

Another finding of ours was even more disturbing. During our testing we downloaded many different products. It wasn’t long before we noticed our computers were not running as smoothly as they used to. It seems some of these manufacture's were including data mining spyware with the software! First they sell you a poor performing product, and then they steal your personal information to sell to advertisers. Maybe for them that's business, but for us, it ’s a huge violation of privacy.

Fortunately, we were able to find a few products that stood out above all the rest. To begin with, these products did not come with any spyware to steal your personal information. Second, no matter which DVDs we converted, we got a perfect copy that played on a variety of hand held devices. Each of these proved to work faster with better quality than any of the competition. If you want to convert DVDs to any format, without getting ripped off, use one of these services.

I've had success in the past using Handbrake and DVD43 to rip DVDs on Windows and upload them to my iPhone via iTunes.

Handbrake does the work of actually ripping the DVD to a format iTunes will recognize, while DVD43 is needed for most DVDs which are copy protected. Without DVD43 any copy protected DVD can't be ripped.

Best of all, they are both free and open source.

Im on my Office Computer but I have a really good program on my Home Computer that ill give you sometime this evening or tomorrow morning.

It even has a Youtube Downloader.

All you have to do though is find something that converts the file into a MP4.

How can I download the songs off my Ipod back to my Itunes. Had to format my computer and therefore lost the existing Itunes.

Just an FYI - be sure to get the 64bit ITunes... not the 32bit.

The FREE(not so known secret) way:

Connect your Ipod.
go to windows button
right click on start
go to explore
Up top - go to "Tools"
click on "Folder Options"
click on "View Tab"
click on radio button - "show all hidden files and folders"

NOW go look for your Ipod in the same "explorer" window
click on your ipod
click on "Ipod Control"
double click on "music"

you will see folders with names like "F00" etc.

Now that you know where these folders/music files are...

Go to Itunes and click on

File
Add Folder and add the entire Music Folder
It will populate your Itunes music library

I was just messing with that to see if it would work.

I just basically copy and pasted the files from the ipod to a different folder.

I do have a question, sense it seems you have done this before.

When importing the files from Itunes, by adding folder to library....does it give back the song titles, artists and albums info? Because when I go into that drive (the ipod/usb drive) and look in those folders they don't show the name of the songs and so on so wondering if it converts it back if you use the add folder to library option....hope that makes sense.:laugh2:

To answer your question - Yes. If you add the entire folder(even if there are subfolders)... the Ipod will organize it as if it were in there already.

you shouldnt see the "F00" folder names etc..
