What sort of lineup did USA field in todays soccer International?

Ireland fielded mainly backups and new players so werent the best. Goalkeeper was 4th on depth chart. Had a couple of local semi-pro players in the squad (one scored!).

It’s all about the future for the USA.

We don’t have a cup and are on an interim coach. Trying to scope talent for the next cup.

I do like some of the young guys and think our future is bright. We have a lot of guys playing in international waters so it’s going to help us.

Yedlin, Pulisic, Weah, McKennie, Wood, Sargent all have bright futures here.

No Pulsic today. Didn't make the trip. Back four Carter-Vickers, Malzadga(spelling) got toasted on the game winning goal, Yeltsin, Viluvanea, Trapp in front, Weah, Rubin, Weston, Adams, Wood up front. Hamid in goal who did not play well especially on the first goal. France could kill them next week but it might be a good learning lesson for the youngesters.

Declan Rice has now become the Irish soccer equivalent of Cooper Rush. 19 year old rookie has played in the 3 late season friendlies and won MVP in 2 of them including the USA game.

Talking about him being the next Paul McGrath (watch McGrath in the '94 World Cup game against Italy in the Meadowlands - rated by experts as the best individual performance by a defender in WC Finals history). Rice has already had an impact in the English Premiership with West Ham.

Sadly, our back four has been an issue for years.

Right back has been an issue since Cherundulo retired. Left back has been a mess as well. Playing guys like Beasley (old) Fabian Johnson (out of position), its tough to stop teams when we don’t have any chemistry.

We’ve been moving parts since Bocanegra and Cherundulo have left. We continually move guys like Geoff Cameron and don’t seem to have any consistency

I do feel Yedlin and Antonee Robinson can be solid Left and right backs.

Woof, that was an ugly game. I'm not sure which side was more depressing, Ireland playing 30 year olds and getting every whistle in Dublin and still looking so poor or the US with a bunch of 19 year olds playing totally out of any shape 90% of the game.
The winning goal was stolen off a teammates foot... woof...
Seeing two players in one spot is how you generally judge if a High School coach is any good.
Saw it all day from both sides but especially the US.
Ugly football.

Hamid has been benched his entire stint at FC Midtjylland (the champions, btw) for someone who's the Danish #4 (and did not make the World Cup squad). When Hamid finally got his chance and the locals actually believed he'd be the #1 FCM keeper going forward he stunk it up and immediately lost his place again, lol. Now, it could be a lot of things, like not having any real game chemistry with his defenders etc., but oh boy, make no mistake about it, he was terrible in that one game here. Don't know at this point if FCM decides to let him leave (hasn't been any talk about it). Can't imagine Hamid's too happy about the back up role. Just my input to keep you guys informed.

Thanks for the note.
Hamid may well grow into a top GK for the US but at this point he was just an afterthought that got called up to run with these kids.
At 27 he seems to old to be any real answer.

I still suspect it is Jonathon Klinsman in goal in 2022. He was the U20 WC Goalie for USMNT.
But Ethan Horvath might hold on and win the gig at 30. He's playing regularly in Europe.

Embarrassing to get beat by a country the size of Ireland.

Well in their defense, if we had made the World Cup, two (Yedlin, Wood) maybe three of the guys who played would even be on the final squad.

It’s all about youth and getting young guys caps

Not with that team it wasn't.

That was basically our Under 21 and 23 teams combined minus the only true star of that group, Pulisic.
About half those guys may well never start a meaningful USMNT game.

France could beat that team by double digits but will likely play whatever their lowest level team is and still win 4-0.

Irish team was experimental including several players who havent much competitive experience. A semi-pro local player scored one of the Irish goals. Many were from lower divisions in England/Scotland - Irish starting lineup is usually mainly premiership players.

Interesting. The TV pundits in Ireland thought Hamid had the best performance of the USA players.
