I just cannot believe how our ex players seem to do NOTHING when trying to make our team. However, when we get rid of them........all of a sudden the lights come on/

Current case in point:

REC YDS AVG TD LG
M. Bennett 3 27 9.0 1 12
I. Stanback 1 5 5.0 1 5

I was really intrigued with the talent of Stanback, but he stayed injured most of the time he was with us. I hope he does good.

Bennett--I used to like him alot, but after his recent comments about us......well you Zoners know how I dislike him today.

I wouldn't call 1 catch for 5 yards in a preseason game "successful".

Also Marty B was the #1 option for a high caliber QB against arguably the worst team in the NFL.

Tap the brakes.

After reading this post, i saw an add featuring Norm MacDonald underneath it.

Couldn't help but wonder if it was Norm that actually made this post..

So a statline from a preseason game is evidence that the lights have come on for these guys and they will be impact players for their new respective teams?

Sorry, not following the logic here.

Maxwell Smart, the Angels, or McGyver isn't needed to understand that why!:starspin

As to Bennett, he always looked like he just came off an episode of Lost in Space, anyway.

Steinbach cant be any good he was released by the great Bill Bellichick.

Tap the brakes.

Tapping the brakes agree, however, it is positive production from two of our ex players who seemed to struggle with us. They are working for the world champions......gosh, I hated typing that.

I am sure they are other examples:

Peterson, OG from the Lions quickly comes to mind.

I remembered having high hopes for this player for our team. He was considered a failure......but, I wonder if he would be good on our current offensive line today?

Remember Jimmy Smith Wr a few years ago? I still hate we cut him, but, all teams make mistakes.....different systems/schemes etc.....make a big difference.

With so many players released/traded/leaving via FA, every season, I think you can find examples of that with every team. Sure, over 15 years, you can come up guys like Jimmy Smith, Peterson, etc., but I don't think the league has been littered with former Cowboys that have gone on to light it up. It also works the other way, too. Look at Robinson last year. Just one example. It's going to happen, to and for every team.

But I'm with the others. I'm not going to get uptight over a few catches and a couple TD's in a preseason game. Especially with MB, because if you remember, he had pretty good preseasons with the Cowboys, too. Now, if he goes on to have 50 catches and 9 TD's this year, and doesn't repeatedly drop the ball (or tip it to a defender), I'll be a little hacked.

You can't really tell anything from preseason, but I did notice that Bennett caught his TD on a simple seam route, same route as his first game he did anything when he caught two from Brad Johnson. Pretty sure his first "meaningful" TD against the Skins came on that route, too. Yet we rarely ever tried it after that. Who the heck knows why Garrett didn't call it more later. Sometimes it's as simple as having your players do what they do best.

How the hell has Bennett succeeded?

He's played one preseason game against a horrible defense.

C'mon man. Tap the breaks.

I'm sure Marty will have a so-so season in NY if he gets to start. Maybe 25th or so out 32 TEs

As for ever EVER letting a preseason game define a players season...well, no way you can do that.

Dwayne Harris had one of the best games of any WR--not only in Dallass, but in the league--in preseason last year (5 targets, 5 catches, 127 yards, 2 TDs)
In other words, he destroyed what Marty and Isaiah did combined.
Yet he had no regular season catches for us.

BTW, this same logic applies to the play of some in camp vs the real thing. It's nice to see, but means little until its done for real.

I would not be surprised to see Bennett have a good year the talent is there and he will get his chance but I do think it was time for the Cowboys to move on

Stanback is with his 4th team in 4 years. If he somehow suddenly emerges, you certainly can't fault the Cowboys at this point. Still, if im Stephen Jones, I'm not having sleepless nights over 1 catch and 5 yds.

Bennett wanted to go elsewhere to be the man. Plain and simple. So hypothetically if he goes on and catches 70 passes for 1000 yds, you still can't fault the Cowboys because he never wouldve had that opportunity here with Witten on the team. Realistically, Bennett is a solid player who is a good blocker and average at best TE receiving threat. Even as the #1 TE in NY, he's still only the 5th best TE in the division behind Witten, Davis, Celek and Cooley

If you want to talk about perrenial All Pros like Jimmy Smith and Brian Watters, that's a different story. But thats 2 guys over 2 decades.

Sorry Crazy.....but I dont understand how you can consider what these players did a success?

This is nowhere near in what happened to Jimmy Smith who put up very solid numbers in REAL Nfl games.

And the others mentioned are journeymen.....dime a dozen...imho

Peterson? Really? As bad as our OL has been in training camp....I wouldnt even consider Peterson......but thats just my humble opinion :D

If you look around in other preseason games......you will notice alot of fridge players put up solid numbers and in the end.....they will never amount to much in a real NFL game.

Its almost like watching the Skins.....go undefeated in preseason and proclaim them SB favorites ......then when the real games start they end up winning 5 games.

M. Bennett 3 27 9.0 1 12
I. Stanback 1 5 5.0 1 5

Just really look at these numbers.....how many players in preseason will put up the same or better?

Its preseason....I wouldnt worry...

Stanback will be lucky to make the final 53......and Bennett...(I was a fan) will be solid player for the Giants ....nothing more IMHO.

I watched Martellus Bennett catch that TD and all he did was run a seam route and nobody on the defense carried him upfield so he was wide open.

Bennett has always "dominated" preseason and always had glowing reports in training camp. We'll see what happens in the regular season.

Ok, Zoners........I forget you all are so smart .....I MUST watch the words utilized in a post.

Succeed IS to stong of a word.

But, they are doing "better" we can all agree with that--right?:lmao2:

The only Post-cowboy successful player (recently), is Scott Chandler.

question for the OPer

do you think Stanbeck will even make the Giants roster?
