I was worried about this movie after viewing the first trailor that came out. Personally, I didn't feel they were really representing the comic book hero.

This trailor makes me want to go back and re-read the 100 or so comics I have of him.

Very cool.

I can not wait for this movie. It's going to be great. Robert Downey Jr. is the perfect person to play Stark in my opinion.

I don't know if you have read Iron Man in the last 4 or 5 years but the Iron Man character has been radically transformed. He used to be depicted as a humble and heroic scientist that was physically limited to a wheelchair or physically weak that required his armor to survive. Now, they have made him this arrogant playboy and a major leader in the Marvel universe. Marvel has made Iron Man a much more pertinent character in their universe. He is not only the leader of the Mighty Avengers but the director of Shield. The movie is capturing this new Iron Man. The movie is based in part on the animated Iron Man film that came out last year as well so you can check that out if you want to know what the film is like

My biggest problem is they cast Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark. There were so many better options. I think Tom Cruise would have made a much better Tony Stark and I'm not a big Tom Cruise fan but his arrogant yet intelligent and self assured disposition would have fit Tony Stark perfectly.

Tom Cruise is not intelligent. Downy Jr. is pretty much perfect for the role. He's much more intelligent than Cruise, and can come across just as arrogant and self assured. And he's a better actor.

Downey Jr. is a bloated and washed up cokehead that delivers his lines with so much sarcasm that it's hard to take him seriously as one of the most brilliant men on that planet. It's also difficult to see him as combatant and a ladies man.

Tom Cruise may be less intelligent than Downey as an actor. Cruise may also lack range as an actor. But the role that Cruise does deliver well fits the character of Tony Stark perfectly. Check out Cruise in the first Mission Impossible film; that is Tony Stark! Stark is not sarcastic poet. He is a self-assured charmer jut like Cruise. Cruise looks more athletic and a guy that is capable of battling in the armor versus Downey who looks like a pudgy and pasty artsy actor.

Oh yeah, and that goattee looks so ridiculously fake that it's pathetic

Also Tony Stark was a guy who battle alcoholisms in his life and had drama who better than Downey. I love the cast of Downing who is a great actor when he was sober

Matthew Fox of Lost would be a better fit than Cruise or Downey Jr.

You mean Charlie (yea he was in the series Party of 5) before he became Dr. Jack :D

I've got about 200 Invincible Iron Man comics from the 80's and (very) early '90's which never had Tony Stark in a wheelchair. He wasn't physically weak back then--just dependent upon his armor to maintain his damaged heart. I haven't bought many comics since the mid-90's, so Marvel must have really done a number on his character between the time I read his title to the last four/five years you mentioned.

I'm not certain how good the movie will be, but I'm glad his character will finally hit the big screen. Can't wait to see him in the golden Avenger armor!
