The Nominees for the 2008 ESPY awards for best NFL Player are:

Tom Brady
Randy Moss
Eli Manning
LaDainian Thomlinson
Bob Sanders
& Brett Favre

I noticed the lack of Tony Romo.

Half of those nominations are a joke. Brady will win but explain to me why Sanders & Favre are included on that list.

Bob Sanders, the guy who led all safeties in tackles? Nope. Not the guy.

Led even his team in tackles? Nope.

Led the league in INTs? Nope.

Led the league in PDs? Nope.

Forcing so many fumbles? Nope. Not a single one all season.

Surely the guy did something noteworthy, right?

Sanders was DMVP (I know, erronously)

shouldn't be that suprising that he was on the worthless list

Eli? Bob Sanders?

The award should go to the Giants' D, as much as I hate to say it. They were the unstoppable force that cancelled the Pats' date with destiny.

but that would require the talking heads at ESPN to think it through, thoroughly

the whole ESPYs is a sham anyways, nothing but selling hype

Sanders is overrated, hes no Ed Reed, but the guy is good.

You watch the games and he has an impact, Id love to have him on my team.

Brady, Moss, LT. Probably could of stopped right there

Did his bad snap recovery vs the Rams get a nomination anywhere?

An award show for sports with jocks wearing tux's and walking on a red carpet has got to be the stupidest idea, snce the Oscars.

The ESPYs are kind of like the pro-bowl in my opinion... a lot of popularity choices and not a lot of substance.

Brett Favre is only on the list because he retired this year and I think it makes a bunch of older sports-media-types happy to have a guy on the list who has the same shade of gray hair as they do.

Anyone really thing some other than pretty boy will win?

No, but he really deserves it after his year... doesn't mean I still wouldn't like to see him lose though :)

I'm not sure leading in those categories is imperative to make a great safety. If your safety is leading in tackles, it's a sign that maybe your defensive line and linebackers aren't doing their job. Personally, I think your MLB/ILB should always lead the team in tackles. If your safety is, then you need to get a new MLB/ILB.

Same with INTs. I think your CBs should lead, not your safeties. That goes for pass defense also.

Now, forced fumbles is a pretty good one to lead, but I still would prefer my DE/OLBs to lead in that category.

everyone of those players was on a team that one a playoff game except Sanders i think. but Sanders won the dmvp award. I do think Adrian Peterson should be on that list instead of LT though.

Eli is an average QB who is the worst SB MVP ever--but I see a lot of Sanders here in Indiana and he is the most dominant defensive player in the NFL (and I'm a big Ware fan)

Exactly. Who the heck cares about this thing anyway?

Oh my gosh, our player isn't included in some meaningless mediot award show!

Romo had one of the better years Stat wise that a QB has ever had.

If not for Tom Brady absolutely lighting it up then there would be no way to overlook what Romo did.

Oh well though i'd bet anything he is up for the award next year barring injury.

So, what you're saying is that he has the potential to be the best defensive player, but that potential isn't quite realized because others on the team do their job?

Nice.

What I noticed was all those guys were on teams that won a playoff game over the last two years.
