Any updates on Irving's tender? Any predictions? I'm guessing a second round tender.

I think it might be a 1st based only on all the guys getting 2nd round tenders.

I'd be happy to get a 2nd for him.

Hypothetically if we got another 2nd we could package it with our 1st to go up and get Derwin James or even package it with our 2nd to get late 1st at DT like Da'Ron Payne or Tavern Bryan. It's not all bad when you consider that player will like be with us for 5 years compared to Irving who's essentially a 1 year rental now.

But to me it's the Leary situation all over again. I don't think anybody is going to splash draft picks on him. He'll get paid when his time comes but until then a 2nd round tender will more than likely keep him a Cowboy for the year.

I’m hoping for a 1st round tender.

Only a draft dork would like to see Irving traded for a 2nd so they can get all nerded up and dream of more goofy hypothetical draft scenarios where the team masterminds it’s way to draft all the guys they have spent hours YouTube scouting.

Forget that crap. Irving is a monster on the field who is unblockable at times. I value that more than some teams late 2nd round pick.

He's a monster when he's not suspended.....or injured......or just being anonymous on the field. I'll take 5-years of a less talented guy than one year of a more talented guy that likely see a suspension or injury again at some stage this season.

The Colts have a ton of money. Would they give up their second round pick for Irving? I know I am in La la land here but you take the Colts second pick and sign the man called Suh.... The issue with Irving is that concussion he just had.

Only someone with no vision would hold your opinion. They aren’t going to sign him to a long term deal and they aren’t contending for a super bowl this year. You can either get a 2nd round pick for him now to help build for the future or you can maybe possibly get a lower round comp pick in two years.

Why? And why are you so confident about it?

Really? What you should say is “someone who doesn’t share my vision”.

So Irving puts up 12 sacks this season and makes the pro bowl and we are not going to sign him long term...or we will only get a lower round pick for him then?

So because we are being smart and keeping his salary down for a year this somehow means we are not going to sign him long term...so because we didn’t jump the gun and pay him big bucks immediately then we will never keep him? This is your vision.

We won’t keep him around why? (This is the part where you use your prejudices to bash his character)

Because he is a perceived head case and somewhat inconsistent due to not being available for various reasons. They aren’t going to give him a 4-5 year deal for big money so he will walk. I’d rather they start getting something for players a year early than holding them 2 years past their usefulness or letting players walk for nothing. Just my perspective. I don’t think he is the kind of player they will invest in so I’d rather have the 2nd now than the possible 4th in two years. I don’t dislike Irving at all but I’m realistic and I just don’t see them investing big money in him.

The second round pick is more "bird in the hand" than the first round pick if you don't plan on giving him a big payday. The only thing worse than a flaky player is a flaky player on a huge contract.

The argument shouldn't be if Irving is a good player but how do we build the DL that we had 2 years ago when McClain and Collins were controlling the interior. The problem with getting any draft pick for irving is trying to have faith this FO will pony up to grab a stud 1T like Payne or Vea or actually spend money and get a still talented player.
