I'm really beginning to appreciate the Playmaker's weekly insight.

Former Cowboys wide receiver and current analyst for NFL Network Michael Irvin went on 105.3 The Fan KRLD-FM to discuss the current state of the Cowboys. Here are some highlights.

On Greg Hardy's sideline antics Sunday night against the Giants:

"I'm on both sides of it. I understand the passion of football is very important and everything. I truly understand that because I played with emotions and passion. But I also understand the other side. You wish that you saw some semblance of a better understanding from Greg Hardy. That's just the reality of it. And if you see some semblance of an understanding, it's when you feel comfortable, oh I know you don't have to worry about that situation again. But the attitude that you're getting, it makes you like, wow. If the bell hasn't rung and you don't get it, then maybe you'll be in that situation again. And I don't know that whoever's talking with Greg Hardy, I don't know that they have enough of whatever they need to actually bring these things up to Greg Hardy. I just think somebody needs to talk to him about it all. It's your second game. I'm all up for you wanting to get your guys going, you need to get everybody going. But it's your second game, man. It's your second game with the Cowboys. Let's not be slapping boards out of the coach's hands right now. Let's not be in a place where we're not willing to listen to the guys around me that are my new teammates. People have a right to be upset with it."

On if he agrees with how the Cowboys are handling the Dez Bryant injury situation:

"Of course not! Because what we all know, with every loss the temperature with Dez is rising. It's just rising. Dez on the sideline with Hardy yesterday, it's rising and rising. Dez is such a competitor and they're leaning and saying we're going to leave it up to Dez. Bing, bing, bing. Wrong, wrong, wrong. Don't leave it up to Dez. Talk to the doc. Dez is going to try to do too much and get back on the field. I don't want to risk Dez this year and we lose him over the long-term on something because he wants to get back this year. I just want to be careful on that."

On how he feels after watching the Cowboys go winless since the Tony Romo injury:

"This is hard. Your team holding out hope against hope and you keep coming up short every time and it's just hard. It's hard to watch for me. I don't know who we had yesterday who was hoping that (Matt) Cassel can give us anything on offense and we didn't get that. Aside from that I think all-around you saw what you wanted to see from every other area. Of course you didn't see what you wanted to see in special teams and certainly didn't see what you wanted to see with their offense but I thought their defense played pretty good football."

On if he thinks the Cowboys should be playing better than they have been:

"Each week optimism is dwindling. It just is. Out of the four games, I thought the Cowboys should have won three of those games. With the exception of the New England game, every one of those other games they had that game won. And I just knew yesterday they would close that one out with Greg Hardy and those guys back. I thought that would have been the difference but we came up short again. I'm shocked and surprised that we came up short. I'm shocked and surprised that Matt Cassel gave up the ball that much, actually."

On fans' newfound appreciation for Romo following the play of Cassel and Brandon Weeden:

"It's a shame and it's sad that we had to go this route for Tony Romo to get the respect and the just that he's due. I bet you now they (the fans) appreciate Romo."

On if Darren McFadden should get the start at running back next week after his strong performance against the Giants:

"I'm going to try to keep any semblance of anything good going on this team, I've got to keep it together. I have to try to keep it together. So yes I would give him more reps, try to get that running game going. Hopefully we get something better going in the passing game. Just looking for something, any kind of spark that can help you in the passing game right now."
