Is 2016 the best Dallas Cowboys regular season ever?
http://sportsday.***BANNED-URL***/d...las-cowboys-regular-season-ever-look-nominees

1968

Regular-season record: 12-2

What happened: Tom Landry's Cowboys won the Capitol Division. Don Meredith quarterbacked Dallas to the Eastern championship game in December. But the Cowboys fell at Cleveland, 30-21. The season didn't end there, however. The Cowboys went to what was called a Playoff Bowl Game at the Orange Bowl in Miami, where they defeated Minnesota, 17-13, to win third-place honors in the NFL.

1971

Regular-season record: 11-3

What happened: Quarterback Roger Staubach and the Cowboys brought Dallas a Super Bowl win for the first time. Along the way, they won the NFC East. They'd opened the season 4-3, but won 10 in a row to end the season and in the playoffs. Dallas defeated Minnesota in the divisional playoff and San Francisco in the NFC championship game. The Cowboys took down Miami, 24-3, in Super Bowl VI in New Orleans.

1977

Regular-season record: 12-2

What happened: The Cowboys won their second Super Bowl ring under legendary coach Tom Landry. First, they won the NFC East, with the only regular-season losses coming back-to-back, against St. Louis and at Pittsburgh in November. Led by Roger Staubach, Drew Pearson and Tony Dorsett - players you might have heard of - Dallas beat Chicago in the divisional playoff and then Minnesota in the NFC championship game. The Cowboys defeated Denver, 27-10, in Super Bowl XII in New Orleans.

1992

Regular-season record: 13-3

What happened: The Cowboys captured the NFC East title behind coach Jimmy Johnson. Emmitt Smith rushed for 1,713 yards and 18 touchdowns. Troy Aikman passed for 3,445 yards and receiver Michael Irvin racked up 1,396 yards. Dallas started its stretch of winning three Super Bowls in four seasons. It dispatched Philadelphia, 34-10, in the divisional round, then beat San Francisco, 30-20, in the NFC championship game. The Cowboys crushed Buffalo, 52-17, in Super Bowl XXVII in Pasadena, Calif.

2007

Regular-season record: 13-3.

What happened: Tony Romo's Cowboys won the NFC East. The quarterback's top targets were Jason Witten and Terrell Owens. Romo infamously relaxed in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico with then-girlfriend Jessica Simpson during the bye week. The Cowboys didn't win a game in the playoffs, falling to the New York Giants in the divisional game, 21-17. Dallas had twice defeated their NFC East rivals in the regular season. Dallas became the first NFC No. 1 seed to lose in the divisional round since the current playoff system was implemented in 1990.

Okay, writers need to throttle it down a gear.

Let the 2016 team actually win the first playoff game please before this kind of article gets written... or better, actually win a Super Bowl.

Not really, as this indicates the regular season results...and is worth taking note.

For the record, just how many NFC teams with the best records...don't win a playoff game?

Point well-taken, but my comment has less to-do with the accuracy (yes, the article is contained to the regular season, that's true).

I'm just bought-in to Garrett's mantra, and it's one that all the players seem to repeat... we'll have plenty of time for assessing this team's place in history, but that's not now. Right now, the focus is rightfully on what is in front of us.

That's just my opinion.

In fairness the article is titled, "best Regular Season Ever." The regular season is over.

The 1992 Cowboys were the best and enjoyed the best regular season, IMO.

Their defense was ranked #1 in the whole NFL and their offense ranked 4th. The team enjoyed 11 players that were pro-bowlers.

Elite coaching was provided by Jimmy Johnson.

The regular season's record were identical, as to number of wins...13.

You are crutching an additional criteria of Post Season results....that isn't the presented question. As is a bias that you add here, that can be your reason...but the success of this year's Cowboys are a complete unknown as to comparisons at that point. But if looking at stats....Dak Prescott's and Zeke Elliott's stats are pretty darned illuminating as well.

Only Philly and their football illiterate fans count "best regular season's". Ask the Vikings, Panthers or Pats how their best regular seasons ever turned out. I'll bet every one of them would just as soon forget those seasons. I'll take an 8-8 season with a SB win over a 13-3, 15-1 or 16-0 regular season any time.

Don't get me wrong. I'm thrilled to be a "relevant" team again, but consistency is the name of the game. You can't have one good year out of every 4 or 5 and lose in the 1st round of the playoffs.....

That isn't the question put on the table...

and this statement doesn't define the merit to this point. Point.

I'll just be explicit...now, Dallas is living up to the hype!

I understand what you're saying, and didn't mean to dog your post at all, but your question is a very subjective one. My opinion of a "best regular season" won't be the same as others. to this date, I think we've had five VERY successful seasons and some good seasons sprinkled here and there.....

I think if you consider where we were last year, where we are now and where we are heading, 2016 has to be one of the most satisfying regular seasons in Cowboys history. Satisfaction is about as subjective as a thing can get though, so everybody has their own opinion on the subject and everybody is right.

Probably not, the team tailed off considerably at the end of the year and I don't think their point differential was as good as even the 2007 team, much less 1992. And since they beat 1, 2, and 3 win teams I would probably need to look at some of the 12-4 teams as well because I know some of them were pretty good too.

Not even close.

The Cowboys have been far more dominant than this in past years.

In the NFL...13 wins are just that, 13 wins. You are what you are...favorites are allowed, but don't ignore the actual achievement.

not even close, they had at least 2 seasons where both offense and defense were top 3 . Plus the boys had no shutouts this year and only topped 40 one time

13 wins which could have been 14 if not for emptying the bench, sitting several starters and playing our 3rd string qb for the majority of the game. 11 straight wins, several records achieved and two legit mvp candidates. Very compelling year. For measure 2 losses by only 4 points.

I didn't mention post season results. The Pro Bowl voting is based on regular season performance and was mentioned to convey the caliber of the players on that team. 11 pro bowl caliber players is amazing...and the ability to feature a #1 defense while they had 3 HOFers on offense is amazing.

If one doesn't want to play...take your football home with you.
This OP was strictly about regular season.

An idiot would want to be the very best in the NFL. Not the question presented, but burn barrel antics aren't a discussion of topic.

You opened the consideration...now how many Cowboys are projected to have been selected for the Pro Bowl this season?

Obviously, HOF'ers are down the road, and Dallas has some that will make it as well...right now. Witten, Smith,...Elliott?
