Is 2016 the best Dallas Cowboys regular season ever?

1968
Regular-season record: 12-2
What happened: Tom Landry's Cowboys won the Capitol Division. Don Meredith quarterbacked Dallas to the Eastern championship game in December. But the Cowboys fell at Cleveland, 30-21. The season didn't end there, however. The Cowboys went to what was called a Playoff Bowl Game at the Orange Bowl in Miami, where they defeated Minnesota, 17-13, to win third-place honors in the NFL.
1971
Regular-season record: 11-3
What happened: Quarterback Roger Staubach and the Cowboys brought Dallas a Super Bowl win for the first time. Along the way, they won the NFC East. They'd opened the season 4-3, but won 10 in a row to end the season and in the playoffs. Dallas defeated Minnesota in the divisional playoff and San Francisco in the NFC championship game. The Cowboys took down Miami, 24-3, in Super Bowl VI in New Orleans.
1977
Regular-season record: 12-2
What happened: The Cowboys won their second Super Bowl ring under legendary coach Tom Landry. First, they won the NFC East, with the only regular-season losses coming back-to-back, against St. Louis and at Pittsburgh in November. Led by Roger Staubach, Drew Pearson and Tony Dorsett - players you might have heard of - Dallas beat Chicago in the divisional playoff and then Minnesota in the NFC championship game. The Cowboys defeated Denver, 27-10, in Super Bowl XII in New Orleans.
1992
Regular-season record: 13-3
What happened: The Cowboys captured the NFC East title behind coach Jimmy Johnson. Emmitt Smith rushed for 1,713 yards and 18 touchdowns. Troy Aikman passed for 3,445 yards and receiver Michael Irvin racked up 1,396 yards. Dallas started its stretch of winning three Super Bowls in four seasons. It dispatched Philadelphia, 34-10, in the divisional round, then beat San Francisco, 30-20, in the NFC championship game. The Cowboys crushed Buffalo, 52-17, in Super Bowl XXVII in Pasadena, Calif.
2007
Regular-season record: 13-3.
What happened: Tony Romo's Cowboys won the NFC East. The quarterback's top targets were Jason Witten and Terrell Owens. Romo infamously relaxed in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico with then-girlfriend Jessica Simpson during the bye week. The Cowboys didn't win a game in the playoffs, falling to the New York Giants in the divisional game, 21-17. Dallas had twice defeated their NFC East rivals in the regular season. Dallas became the first NFC No. 1 seed to lose in the divisional round since the current playoff system was implemented in 1990.
