Is accuracy number 1 trait in a QB?

Definitely not, especially when throw-aways are factored in versus being ultra conservative like Dak and taking the sack instead of throwing it away.

Arm strength is #1 (can't teach talent), ability to read defenses is #2... pocket presence #3 before you get to accuracy.

There is a minimum level of arm strength needed to play in the NFL, but arm strength isn't what separates a lower level QB from an top one. That falls on things like instincts, and ability to read defenses and making good decisions. The mental aspect is the most important.

It's tough to put any one characteristic as the #1 requirement for a franchise QB. You can sure as hell tell when a QB has "IT" though, Dak has some nice traits but he does not have enough of them.

Exactly. Accuracy is the number one trait if you are talking about Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, or Drew Brees. Athleticism is the number one trait of you're talking about Cam Newton, Mitchell Trubisky, and Russell Wilson.

As for Dak, he falls into a grey area. We've seen his athleticism, but he's not an elite running QB. We've seen him have some great passing games, but he's certainly not an accurate QB on the whole (and I am a Dak fan).

I know I will get fried for this, but when I look for a QB to compare Dak to, I have to go back in time and say either Donovan McNabb or Steve McNair. They were both around Dak's size (6'2, 240 range), had excellent mobility, were average passers, but tremendous leaders. That's Dak all the way.

reading the field

Winner, winner...chicken dinner. Anticipation and field vision beats all other physical attributes consistently. Why because you can only display these characteristics if you are calm and collected.

If you want a physical attribute I would prefer a quick trigger finger over accuracy and a big time arm.

#1 - winning, no matter what all the other stats indicate....just win. Then no one cares about your accuracy, sacks, turnovers, completion %, avg/pass, or rating.

They can all affect winning, but somehow some guys find ways to win by playing to their strengths and leading, not by being great in every area. It also helps if coaches allow a guy to play to his strengths.

Throwaways are excluded.

If so, the numbers don't pass the smell test again.

Interesting. I went to check the stats.

Rodgers is *way* down compared to the rest of the league in terms of completion percentage. Brady pretty far down too.

seems weird that Dak isn't on both lists, he has an ungodly amount of unforced errors with a clean pocket. How many times can he run into a sack or fumble the ball with a clean pocket? Has happened at least once in every game it seems.

Brady had a ton of inaccurate throws this week against TEN. Rodgers has been playing on a bum leg all season, but I'm still surprised at the accuracy issues.

Being able to place the ball in the optimal spot for the receiver to make the best play given the situation is the most important trait of a quarterback.
