Is any defender really worth the 10th overall pick?

A LB is only as good as the d line can keep them clean. We don’t have that d line. Fix the trench’s and everything gets better immediately.

That's the real problem. That "Shut your mouth" D player isn't there.

I don’t see a JJ Watt, a Donald, a Fletcher Cox, a Lawrence Taylor, a Randy White. I don’t see a Ramsey, or anything close. I see a lot of Tacos on defense that in any other year might be secind rounders at best.

Surtain is only rated as high as he is based on the fact that there are no legit, clean defenders in this class.

CB Patrick Surtain Jr played for CB Patrick Surtain Sr in high school. So junior has been born and bred for the NFL since day one. But I don't think Jr last the test of time, in the NFL, like his dad. I still say Jr becomes average after about five years.

I say we just trade back to 13-17 range.
Yeah but he doesn’t have catch up speed. That makes him closer to a 3rd round corner than a lockdown corner. Anything less than sub 4.40 40 is reaching at #10.

I have a hard time believing that this draft is so bad on the defensive side of the ball that a team could not find a all pro.

I don't think anybody is saying that there isn't one but who is that guy? Any of these guys might eventually develop into that but which one because none of them jump off the page to me at this point.

I have a hard time buying into the fact that any defender in this draft class is worthy of the 10th overall pick. Three have been discussed extensively as possibly with that pick. The two cbs and Parsons.

One of the two CBs is injured and he is probably the better of the two (Farley). I can’t imagine someone taking him in the top 10. Parsons reportedly has off the field issues. Are you taking a troubled player at #10? Sartain seems solid but unspectacular, without makeup speed. You can get guys like that anywhere in the draft.

Is there really a defender worthy of the #10 pick in THIS draft class? I think the smart money is betting NO, there is not.
Comes down to what else is there at 10. Other than D, they also nave needs on the OL.

This draft is going to take on a life of it's own in that top 10 with the 5 QB's and 3 WR's and that TE. It is improbable but we might see those 9 players off the board and Sewell, Slater, Parsons and Surtain available. And in that top 9 are teams either needing a QB or a weapon for their QB like ATL, CIN, DET and DEN. And we don't really know if the NYJ and MIA are really sold on their young QB's.

They already have that at the other CB, that's the reason he was available in the 2nd round.

I really don’t care what our needs are. That’s how we ended up with Taco. Would you rather have Taco or whatever offensive player who was worthy of that draft slot at that time. We forced the Taco pick and we ended up with zero to show for that pick. Total zero.

Draft talent. If you think Pitts is the next megatron you draft him. If you think Slater is the next Tyron, pick him. But do not pick a Taco just because you need one!!!

Correct... I know hindsight is 20/20 but.... They just picked the wrong defensive player... Watt or Budda Baker should of been the pick...

DE Jaelan Phillips keeps getting closer. I know he's only had one great season, but it was this past season. He also ran a 4.55 40 & jumped a 38.5 vert. at 6-5, 260 lbs., at his pro day. To me, it confirms what I originally thought- that he is an elite athlete with great hands & instincts.
It wouldn't bother me one bit if we took him at ten.

Parsons probably is the only one, but I don't want him for this defense. He seems like a perfect 3/4 guy so Denver probably takes him at 9 anyway.
Surtain, Horn, Farley, JOK, Phillips, Collins, Barmore, Bolton and Moehrig are all good defenders that you would most likely want to pick in the middle to late 1st if you could. If we can't trade out and you must have defense than we could reach for one of them with the #10 pick. I listed them in the order of reach worthiness IMO.

Yes! Why don't more people understand that?! A great DL makes an ordinary back seven a lot better than the other way around.

Jaelan Phillips is creeping up, IMHO. At 6-5, 260, he ran a 4.55 40, (after being adjusted from a 4.46 40). He also ran a 4.12 short shuttle & had a 36" vertical. The last two numbers are the most impressive. They show how rare his explosion is for a player of his size. I will not complain at all if they take him at ten.

Amen.

I think there is a couple of them that may be worth it,however the drop off from them to others rated lower is not much, so it maybe worth it to get a kyle pitts (if he drops to 10) and get a Newsome II, Grant or Moherig in the second. I am big advocate of trading up and getting a player, given we have 10 picks. we need impact players, good player not number of players...so if we have to trade up in the second to get a player, then lets do that instead of taking a bunch of players in the 5th, 6th or 7th round.

That is really a trick question. It depends on the team and their needs.

A team like the Cowboys with a good top 10 O and a bottom 10 D, should they really care about draft grades or value?

They do not need a D player valued at the top 10 position, they need the best D player that can get at 10. Wasn't this the reason for taking Lamb? Oh, can't pass him up. As long as you do that, how do you expect to put a contender worthy D on the field. They're surely not going to do it through FA, so they're good enough to do that without a #1 D pick?

Chaisson wasn't a good value at 17 last draft so they went O and actually made a mediocre D worse. They're a fart in the whirlwind in FA and now they need to not take a D player with that 10th pick?

I could care less about Kiper's values, take the best available D player with that 10th pick and do the same with the 44th. Wait to fix the D and the O will need fixing.
