Is anyone concerned about the Romo-vember stuff?

I can't turn on ESPN and NFL Network without them showing the stats about how great Romo has been in November compared to other months. His career stats in November are almost flawless.

On one hand I'm like, "Psshh..who cares, these guys are idiots".

On the other hand I'm like, "Well damn, the numbers don't lie though".

And of course the three games that may be the most important of our season (Giants/Giants/Eagles) all fall in December. Should make for an interesting, blood pressure raising end to the season.

Romo's November to December transformation is truly one of the strangest things in sports IMO. It doesnt make any sense, and yet the statistical difference is undeniable.

A part of me has often wondered if he improves during the year, peaks in November and then becomes so confident that he starts taking too many risks and playing too much improv ball and that's why his rating plummets in December.

It seems we should be tired of these stats and just be worried about what happens from here on out. The stats are fine for knowledge sake. But it doesn't matter that much to me. I just want the Cowboys to continue winning.

if you looked carefully you saw that the rest of his numbers weren't really all that bad. But his November numbers are ridiculous.

The issue is that his lowest rating is in the month of December. September, October and November are all higher.

2006 - first year starting
2007 - second year starting, had a really bad game, and also got pulled in the last game of the season because of our record
2008 - coming off injury, marian barber injured, tough competition
2009 - pretty good december
2010 - didn't have a december

Answer: No

Disclaimer: Unless someone owns a time machine and has seen the future, in which case the answer is maybe.

much harder to throw the ball in december a better run game would help Romo's stats

I was wondering the same thing myself. This December will be a good test of that idea...tough competition, a better run game and hopefully Fiametta back and healthy.

Well we won't have to worry about the elements too much since we've got 3 games indoors in December. Romo is 5-1 in December/January games indoors. Tell Jerruh to keep that roof closed!

only the finale is a cold weather game.

"If the playoffs start today" we play the Lions @Dallas. Then we go to San Fransisco.

Warm weather.

I'm guessing they will close the roof in Indianapolis. Not sure how that works.

If everything stands as is, the only cold weather game we would play would be against the Packers or the Bears if the bears beat the Packers.

He also played teams with top defenses in December. Especially teams who can rush the passer. Go look at his qb rating stats. All the bad ones in December was against, Philly (Jim Johnson's blitzes), NYG, Baltimore and Pittsburgh.

Common theme in those games is that he was sacked 3 or more times. I'm sure he was pressured alot too. Maybe the media should start asking about our OL's December swoon.

That's good. In that case, no cold-weather storyline this year. Hope we see a Romo-cember.

Looking at the playoff picture, we really don't have room for error. We need to run the table.

Was that the year of the thumb injury or am I thinking of something else?

Health (not just his, but other players who affect his success), the competition level, weather, etc., can all be factors. That's why so much of the data is relatively useless.

Yes, as always, it's made to be about the quarterback. Of course, for ESPN, talking about Marc Colombo's or Leonard Davis' December drop-off isn't much of a ratings booster.

Too bad the Dallas area media seems to take their cues from the talking heads instead of doing a little research to uncover the causes for the effect.

The last season that Romo even played in December (2009), he was named NFC Offensive Player of the Month.

Romo vs Aikman December QB rating

Romo - 80.3, 21 tds, 20 int, 61.3%
Aikman - 78.0, 35 tds, 30 int, 59.5%

Not at all. Romo's December swoon is clearly a thing of the past and that was proven in 2009.

What are you talking about? The Iggles are still two games back and the Giants while they are tied record wise with us have a brutal schedule left. Cowboys need 10 wins not 12 to win the NFC East.

To further show how much spin is out there...

Any one talking about Eli Manning's December Woes?

14-17 in December

74.3 QB Rating

55.3% accuracy

Looking at his career, his accuracy slowly drops as the NFL season goes on.

While is accuracy jumped in October, his QB rating has been on a free fall this year.

September 104.3
October 101.0
November 79.0

As his schedule has gotten more difficult he has regressed in performance.
