Is Bruce Carter making the case for a return?

We've all been up and down on Bruce Carter, but this guy has just made big plays when we needed them. I wish he could be more consistent, but given time in the same system, maybe he could be a key guy for us.

Thoughts?

I think someone will put a big bid on him to play in a 3-4 scheme where he is a better player (5 years, $25M).

I'd be happy to bring back Durant and then go with Lee, McClain, Durant and Hitchens.

Hes a splash play guy. I dont think he is a good down in down out guy. Not a cerebral defender, he isnt gonna read the offense and make plays like that. But he is a physical beast and if teams dont respect him he will make them pay for it.

I like him at SAM. It makes the game easier him and lets him play with body more and his brain less

He was a very nasty WILB in a 3-4

Not terrible but you would either need to put a priority in the draft or FA on LBer. 2 of those guys have a habbit of ending up on IR.

Yes, we probably go mid-round LB again in the draft and maybe sign another athletic, high character vet like Durant.

He has looked good down the stretch. Earlier in the season he missed some plays, but I wonder if Lee's absence caused some doubt in his mind as to how he played. I don't think he will be a high dollar player, but with McClain, Hitchins, Lee, Durant, he would be part of an awesome rotation.

In a world with no salary cap, sure.

We can't afford to have 3 high paid LBs on this defense. McClain is more of a priority than Carter. We still have about $10M in guaranteed money owed to Sean Lee according to Spotrac. We still need to re-sign Dez and find a pass rusher.

Carter just has too much market value after this year with his athleticism and big play potential.

I think it's either him or Durant that's retained, and my money and preference is for Durant by a wide margin. Carter had a big day today, though.

A such as i like Durant he has durability issues between muscle pulls and such. Bruce has to think does he r ake more money and deal with the doubt about his ability switching to yet another defense or taking less and being a starter in role he is comfortable in.

I said it a few weeks back. He's had a solid few weeks of football. His problem has been consistency. I'd bring him back but I think maybe a 3-4 team or maybe a ex-coach like Rob Ryan might get his hands on to him and offer much more than any team should.

I'd keep everybody but it's a matter of cost.

I would churn the bottom of the roster on defense and no matter who you are, if you are at the bottom, you're gone. I also would look to get another LB in here because I don't see Sean Lee being here for the long term if he has one more injury. You can't afford that salary (perhaps a restructure) and have that same player on the sidelines.
