Is Cam Newton a better prospect than Tim Tebow?

Nothing to do with the Cowboys.

Just curious what your opinions are, being that Tebow was the Apple of the draft world's eyes entering the draft last year and all I keep hearing about Cam is that he's probably a cheater or at the very least a liar.

They are completely on opposite sides of the media love/hate spectrum, it would appear.

But as a football player, who do you think is the better prospect?

I think so. He does not need as much work as Tebow still does.

I think right off the bat, he's a better thrower than Tebow. I think he has a better physical skills-set to work with. I don't know what he has in his head though.

Newton is easily the better prospect IMO.

Now he isn't the worker Tebow is, but he has better mechanics. Better arm, accuracy, better physical skills etc.

What has he done to demonstrate he doesnt have it in the head?

I dont think either of them will be successful NFL starters.

He may be a slightly better thrower than Tebow was, but I dont know how much better. His stats are definitely skewed from playing in that gimmick offense.

That's an unknown.

He has the same questions coming out that Tim Tebow did/does; after running a gimmicky offense at Auburn, does he have aptitude to run a complex NFL scheme that requires him to read multiple routes and various depths and make the right throw?

Please don't act like you know he has it based off what he did at Auburn in that offense.

Saying you question whether he can move from a spread offense to a more conventional NFL offense is one thing.

To say he doesn't have it in the head, is borderline racist because it implies that as a black quarterback, he doesn't have the mental capacity to grasp the quarterback position at the NFL level.

I've heard people knock Tim Tebow. But I've never heard someone say he doesn't "have it in the head" just that people question whether his skills can translate to the NFL.

I think Newton is going to surprise you. Forget the stats. Watching him it was apparent to me that he could flat throw the ball.

you only have 78 posts, I think you should start over, come up with a more interesting name than "Dallas Cowboys Fan". Come on, be creative

I think he is. I think his throwing mechanics are better, still needs some work on it but most rookies do have to minor changes to make

Tebow does not have an NFL arm.

Neither did Phil Simms or Joe Montana.

On the other hand, Jeff Geoge, Ryan Leaf and Billy Joe Tolliver - now THOSE were NFL arms.

He is far and away a better prospect than Tebow. I think it's hilarious that the year after people are himming and hawing about Tebow as the greatest college football player ever, Cam Newton comes along and pretty much does everything that Tebow ever did faster, stronger, and better.

What do you mean you never heard someone question whether Tebow "has it in the head?"

First off, if you're going to quote someone, quote them in context, I said "I don't know what he has in his head though," which is an entirely different statement than saying "he doesn't have it in the head," which is how you paraphrased it.

I then fleshed out that statement and applied the same critique to Tebow (and all college QBs from gimmicky college schemes) that I did Newton before you even trotted out the boneheaded racist label.

So consider yourself having "heard" it.

Because I don't feel it's a racial issue in any sense, I don't feel the need to qualify everything I say when I critique a player like Newton.

Newton has all the ability in the world. I don't know if his mechanics can be fixed or not, but he has a great arm and is a better pure passer than Tebow.

But I don't know that he's a better prospect overall. I don't trust the off the field stuff.

I'd wager that some team will fall in love with him and draft him in the top 10, though.

So it's ok to be racist concerning someone's athletic ability but not their intellect?
