Ed. Note: Gifs on the way, be patient with page load if necessary.

There’s little question that Morris Claiborne has been the best defensive back on the team in 2016. He was actually quite good in 2015 as well, but his needle has been trending upwards and people are really starting to take notice of his play. In the comments of my look at Alshon Jeffery I opined that Claiborne was the best player we had to limit Jeffery. It turned out that his matchups with Kevin White were more entertaining, and they included a catch for the ages by White, who is a strong physical specimen himself. He also did well against speedy slot guy Eddie Royal.

sign me up but we're not getting Mo-Better for less then 8

If he continues to.ball out and make some turnovers, I'd franchise him for a year before I gave him a big contract

We can't lose this dude if he keeps playing the way he is. Sure, it's a gamble resigning him, but he's part of the reason we have a semi-legit secondary. He doesn't ballhawk, but he plays physical and sticks to his assignment.

If he plays the way he has for the full 16 weeks, I think it would be wise to offer him something in the neighborhood of 4yr-30mil 20 guaranteed. That amount is far below what top paid CB's make (much less than Carr was paid, even), but has the potential to be a great deal for us down the road, as Mo is playing great ball right now, and could get even better.

If we let him walk it opens, yet, another hole on D when we need as few as possible as we begin to patch our anemic D back together.

As many have already pointed out, we need to go heavy on DE and LB, SS and a TWill replacement (assuming he prices himself out of a contract with us, which he will -- he's gonna want Tavon Austin money).

Letting a solid CB like Claiborne walk is a no-go at this point. My only hope is that we hold the leverage during negotiations. We should due to his injury history and periods of inconsistency, and the fact that he "says" he wants to stay in Big D. But we've heard that before.

Love Claiborne, hope we can retain him at a good deal for both sides.

I think it's been a combination of Claiborne playing well and luck. Some of the receivers he's played against have been overthrown when open because of poor quarterback play. He also got away with a clear hold in the end zone. If those plays had worked against him, fans probably would be calling for his head again.

However, he has been physical and has played tight coverage for the most part. That's all we can realistically ask.

I like the way the DB coach has Mo and the other secondary guy making hits this year. We already have 4 turnovers in 3 games, I think we had 11 all of last year.
I think youre right but it didnt seem like that many.

Not to mention our first round pick is already occupied by defensive line next year (hopefully) and Carr will also be gone, so we already have to replace one corner.

Didn't Bill Parcells have a rule about paying guys who don't show up until they're in a contract year?

Yup, defense has forced 4 turnovers thus far. In the Chicago game, JJ Wilcox came up and popped a Bears receiver and made him cough up the ball, Crawford recovered it. That was the time Dan Bailey missed the FG. 2nd turnover was a hit on Hoyer which Mayowa recovered.

Church read the play vs. Cousins and got the end zone int. in WK 2.

And in WK 1 Carr intercepted Eli Manning, reading the play early and getting into position.

That's 3 out of 4 turnovers caused by the secondary.

I was going to say.....I wonder how much impact the new DB coach has had on our corners. They've all looked improved from last season.
