last year he got off to a white hot start, then kinda came back down to earth down the stretch. This year it’s kinda the same thing, he wasn’t had a sack in 3 games and is now in 16th place on the leaderboard. He’s had 10+ sacks once in 5 years.

Not saying he’s bad but ppl are acting like he’s the best player on the team when he’s probably not even the best player on defense.

if people vote yes just answer me this:

When you watch our defense do you see how often he's the only rusher to get past the LoS while everyone else is stuck at the snap? And how many times does he have to fight a chip block by the TE or RB plus the tackle? Sometimes he gets doubled by the OL. When I see the double teams focusing Lawrence more than anyone else on the DLine there's no way you could ever convince me he's overrated. Sacks aren't the whole story.

He's the best we got. I'd say everything will probably stay in the top 15 pass rushers on average throughout his career.

Will he ever be the best in the league, IMO no.
But the team would be significantly worse without him.

Maybe a little.

His health directly contributes to that. He's had a career of on/off with injury being the deciding factor.

If he can stay healthy, he's not overrated at all. But he's yet to prove he can.

He’s rated about where he should be. He has a torn labrum and doesn’t have much help when the 2nd best pass rusher is a 4-3 LBer most of the time.

Not at all. In addition to being an excellent pass rusher, he’s also a very balanced end who plays the run well. His only two full seasons in the league produced 8 and 14.5 sack seasons.

Also, it’s not fair to say he’s had only one 10 sack season out of 5 when season 5 is in progress and he’s already 1/2 way to 10.

Last year Lawrence came off a horrible prior year and started huge in the first four games. Once teams realized he could play, and defended him like an elite player, he put up good but not elite numbers, then his play further deteriorated in the 2nd half of the season, where he was putting up only ok numbers. I'm guessing he also physically wore down in the back half of the season.

This year, he started the first quarter of the season looking like an elite player again, but has already declined, with no sacks in the last 3 games. It's unclear that he can play a full season at an elite, or even very good, level. How he holds up in the back half of this season will tell us a lot about what he can be.

I think his ceiling is at very good but not elite for a full season.

And I don't know how long that can last. Every year he's playing with significant health issues. That will just grind a player down on a permanent basis.
