I was stunned to learn (from my elderly parents' physician) that Vicoden (i.e. Hydrocodone) is much LESS harmful to your liver and kidneys, than OTC NSAIs. I don't think Vicoden is legal in the NFL because it is a narcotic. I've also heard that Tylenol is bad for you kidney's as well.

I think the outcome for DRC will be a function of how many injuries he suffers and how high is his tolerance for pain...

The nfl uses vicodin, thats what Favre got hooked on. He started taking teamates pills.

I'm pretty sure they use a couple of different medications unless some drug company has signed an exclusive deal to provide the NFL with pain killers, which is possible but improbable.

Thats not what I was saying, I was answering the previous post where the guy thought vicodin was illegal in the nfl. I was telling him they do use it.

NSAIDs are reasonably safe when used properly which means for short periods of time. To minimize medical risks I would suggest checking blood pressure and kidney function periodically. The people who are most prone to having kidney function decline on NSAIDs are actually people who already have kidney disease.

Far and away, the most major complication of NSAIDs use is ulcers and GI bleeding. This risk can be decreased with use of anti-acids such as Losec while on the meds.

I tend to believe that most people with chronic pain would incur less harm from use of opiods (morphine, percocet, vicodin, etc.) so long as they aren't at high risk for addiction which can be screened for at the time of initiation of treatment.

That's the name that popped into my mind too. I think if his career had been longer we might talk about only Ronnie Lott as a better Safety in the NFL. He was so dynamic. I loved watching him play.

The funny thing about DRC is that according to some draft publications, scouts are now having to reevaluate him due to his senior bowl week and the combine.

Before that, word was he actually underperformed at Tennessee State, allowing inferior WR's to separate, and he supposedly gave up a ton of receptions. That's why he wasn't expected to be selected until the 3rd round before senior bowl week. He didn't have a good year at Tennessee State according to some.

I don't know if these reports are true or not, but it does give one pause.

I know I am completely alone in this.....

but if DRC were to fall to 22.......we better take him...

then at 28, if Cason is still there.....we better take him...

2 CBs in the first....not practical, not popular, but IMO these are the top 2 CBs in this class, and if the Cowboys can get them both.....I would be completely stoked.

Yes, I know we may be getting PacMan, but we don't know what kind of shape he will be in or when he will even be reinstated. He is such a huge gamble, even moreso than these two draft picks.

Oh yes, and for good measure, I would still trade down in the 6th, add a 7th and take CB Jack Ikegwuonu (then sign him and place him on the PUP list for a year). Before his injury, he was one of the top CBs in college.

I'm not a fan of drafting two CB's in the first round, but I wouldn't be dissapointed if we drafted a CB like Talib or DRC and then S Kenny Phillips.

If Pacman has signed, then we may have more flexibility to still sign Phillips and a CB in the 2nd or 3rd round if you are looking to load the secondary.

A person can function in every day life with just one kidney and not have one problem at all. The only risk is that if that lone kidney starts to go bad, that's all he's got left. But there are countless people in this world that function fine in life with just one kidney. The probably only removed DRC's other kidney just so it didn't become cancerous.

This is patently false.
