Is Fabini still on this team

I hope so...because the money being tossed around is just shocking...I almost wonder if it is a big joke. Andre Gurode looks like a bargain at this point. But other than him our prospects on where football games are won and lost is just dismal. Other than Gurode who else on this roster along the OL can you say will be a starter for the next 4-5 years. And to think there are people on this board that want us to draft more LBers and DL. Hey, how about we add another TE while we are at it. You know who did some good (not great) good things while he was here. But if we draft another LBer of TE on the first day this year, we will all know how much he has rubbed off on the entire organization

Yes fabini is still on the team.

However think about this. Fabini was a "FOB" friend of bill, a bill guy, bill brought him in. Now if Colombo was named starter ahead of him after coming off years of rehabbing a knee. That says either Colombo is much better than people think or that fabini is not going to be worthy of anything but backup status at this point in his career.
If skills were equal I think bill would have went with Fabini just due to exp alone.

So that tells me they were not equal and Colombo was superior.

We do not really want Fabini to be the starter right now IMO.

If skills were equal, I would have gone with the young guy to give him on the field experience for the future.

I thought Bill had Fabini in his doghouse? Didn't he say he was just going thru the motions in practice?

Wow, good point. I almost forgot about Fabini. The guy was solid last year when he was asked to step in. He looked a little sluggish early on in training camp (coming off an injury) but then stepped it up and looked just fine in pre-season. He's only 32 (old, but not too old for a lineman). He could be a serviceable RT for several more years. This could certainly explain the reluctance to drop major bucks on Colombo. He could at least hold the fort down for a year or two while a 3rd/4th round RT prospect could come into his own.

Fabini is under contract through the '07 and '08 seasons.

He should be a backup and nothing more IMO.

Even if we don't get a new OT in FA we would hope to get a OT in the draft. Fabini might work out for a few games but not as a full time starter.

I'm not sure why anyone would think this. Every time he saw the field last year he got a nice push on run plays and was solid in pass blocking. I believe he had one whiff where he blocked down and the DE ran by him, but that could very well have been his called assignment.

I think Colombo started because Fabini could back up both sides.

the best quote about fabini came from bill parcells " i could play fabini at RT backwards and he wouldnt give up 16 sacks" or something to that extent

Fabini came very cheap. He is inexpensive enough (about 1 million) that we might as well keep him until camp, especially if we are unable to sign someone. i haven't given up on that yet.

That was only in response to the ground swell of public perception that Rob Petitti was somehow an option. In comparison, he was better than Petitti.

Fabini was a Parcells fav but that didn't keep him from getting benched in favor of McQ.

Benched in favor of McQ? McQ was activated for a couple games because Parcells wanted him to get some game "experience" without actually playing, whatever that means. Then McQ went back to being inactive.

From what I remember McQ was playing because Parcells didn't like how Fab was playing. It's possible I am wrong but that's how I remember it.

McQ never played a snap. Fabini was still seeing game time -- even in the playoff game, I believe.
