Is Ferguson even a jag?

His blocking is putrid. If you need a 3 yard route he specializes in it and he may as well put flags on at first contact. Why did we extend this guy? Huge waste of money. I guess he commented on his charmin blocks and had more of those today glad he's getting paid millions try putting that effort in at a 9-5.

His blocking has generally been viewed as functional but inconsistent. We already knew that. His 8.1 yards per catch this year tells you exactly what his role has been. It's a short/intermediate, chain-moving routes rather than stretching the defense vertically. That's what the Cowboys ask of him and he plays that role well.

If Steele didn't require perpetual help in pass-pro then Ferguson wouldn't have to help before running shortened routes!

Are we now suggesting he's a shell of a jag? Or an jag minus? Let's be honest here, opportunity yields results. If his targets were higher his stats would be better. The same goes with our RB. More touches better stats.

People are fired up because of two brutal no effort blocking assignments that hurt the team.

Jerry extends worthless guys all the time with ridiculous money, but won't pay a real HC.

With Pickens CD and Flournoy hes really a 4th option. He needs to make those blocks. He needs to put more effort in.

Not our top need on offense but upgrading there wouldn't hurt at all if chance arises.

It’s the lack of effort that drives me crazy. Like he isn’t even interested in blocking at all.

Let BSF take his snaps until he decides he wants to actually do his damn job.

He loves the “pound my chest” “look at me I got a first down” moments… but he undoes any of his positive moments by refusing to do any dirty work that his role requires.

And his blocking has most definitely regressed from his early years. Instead of maturing into a competent technician, he just doesn’t even try.

In a word— it’s pathetic. And our “HOF” GM rewarded him with a big contract.

He’s not playing well overall and I’m being nice when I say that but to be fair he did have a clutch 4th down catch in the game winning drive.

I’m the type of fan, regardless of position, if you suck through 3 quarters and then show up in a clutch moment and we win the game I can easily forget the 3qtrs and 10 minutes of suckage. We won and I’m happy about that.

Perhaps the attention should be on Schoonmaker......outside of ST......what are you getting? Fergie just the best in the TE rotation.

Anderson and Hunter combined for the most sacks by a duo in the NFL last year.

Olsen said himself that some games he was just going to help block all game.

So if this hot take is because of yesterday, then smh.

For the season, its clear that Fergy isnt a major part of the game plan. That would be on Shoddy. Or he is a bigger part and Dak just isnt looking his way because he wants to feed Pickens and Lamb.

The only way to know why his production is down due to him being a "jag" is to know each play call, his responsibility and did he get open?

Hes not here nor being paid to be a punishing blocker. And with Lamb and Pickens and even Flourney, Ferg just doesnt seem to be an option.

No, this was before his contract, I gave him at least the status of a jag before.

His blocking is the problem; he is a safety valve and occasional red zone target. Nothing more.

It'd be nice to have a superstar TE, sure. We had one for about 15 years. And a pretty good one in the early 90s, too. Anyway, Jake definitely has deficiencies in his game but he has a pretty carved-out, niche role in the offense and if it gets us 8 TDs a season and some clutch plays, I'm okay with it for the timebeing.

Or is that all he is capable of? He was never a true vertical guy who can get up the seam. Last year showed a significant drop off in YAC and yards per catch which both indicate a dip in physical ability…matching what most are reporting to see during the game.

I don’t view Ferg as a liability, especially given the talent around him, but he has been more of a lower end starter ever since his breakout 2023.

Ferguson is a mid tight end that can't beat corners or safeties in man coverage but can occasionally beat a linebacker. And when I say beat safeties I'm talking about more than 10 yards downfield. There's only a handful that can do it. The main issue when him is his fumbles and run blocking not his pass catching.
