Is Front Office Complacent?

OK, we signed Pickens. I like it.

We had what looks like a good draft. I like that too

We still have needs at LB, S, CB, DT and maybe RB.

Do the Cowboys think signing Pickens was enough? Jerry was talking about a couple substantial trades.

We only made one. The roster looks better but it isn't complete.

Will they make any more key moves or did signing Pickens make them overly confident and complacent about signing or trading for other key upgrades?
Running Back No Lb No safety No CB Yes

Jerry realized that "good enough" still makes him the most money among all NFL teams. Hence, he will NEVER change.

Substantial trades require substantial draft compensation. If we make anymore trades it won’t be until the regular season. A lot of players will be cut this summer. Some surprising cuts could be made. If we run into a problem that needs addressing during the season we may make a trade.

I don’t think the needs go to that extent, but I’m personally ok with the RB approach and what’s at CB, while most aren’t.

Safety will become an issue before long, but it’s acceptable for now.

LB isn’t great but there’s some potential there and talent in the room.

They have one big problem and it’s the same one as it’s been for quite some time now….up the gut vs the run. It’s arguably worse and will absolutely be exploited by the better OCs….again. Come March, they will do nothing to fix that…again. No reason at all to believe that will change.
You're okay with nickel currently?

Jerry said a couple substantial trades. We only had one. So what happened?
A few thoughts. ..

1. One of those trades may have been if they missed on the RB they wanted, they did not, Blue was a target all along.

2. What ever other team(s) we were talking to may have decided against it or maybe compensation too high so we bailed. .
3. Maybe a couple didn't mean a couple of different positions rather a couple of teams they were talking to about WR.

Well it’s not ideal, but my point that I didn’t at all make clear was that it isn’t a huge problem relative to some others on defense.

If you want guys like Elam, Revel, and Carson (who I haven’t given up on) to eventually become something, they’ve gotta play a little.

It’s a tough conversation to have when we have no real way of knowing when Revel or Diggs will be ready, but if they add anyone of significance I’d prefer a DT

Fair enough. I've not given up on Carson either just don't see him as the fit for Nickel in Flus D.

I think it's our biggest area of concern. 1t is second area.

If we keep Pickens, I think the Cowboys can be competitive after next year's draft. I think we'll be decent this year, but not good enough to compete with the top teams. The Cowboys never go for it all in one year.

The Pickens trade, much like the Cooper trade, was to get us out of the tank. To make us more competitive, and a little more exciting. Not to win a championship.

Yep, Lewis was a tough loss but they couldn’t pay him that kind of money.

Is that why Bland is working inside on nickel? I follow what goes on but not all that closely. I can’t really figure on which corner can play inside and who cannot, but I think there’s some talent in the room there.

Complacency would be preferred over incompetence.

However, they are not complacent.

They lack vision, they lack innovative thinking, they don't have a clear plan, the actual chain of command is an exercise in chaos, their top executives lack a commitment to their respective offices and promotion by merit is replaced by ascension through blood ties

But they are not complacent.

Complacent? No. Making moves to stay relevant? Absolutely. Their goal quite simply has nothing to do w/ winning the super bowl. They've gone out of their way to show this to be true.
