Is it just me? Draft question

it doesnt matter if its exciting, as long as it produces talent, all im looking for is wins

Agreed... that is the bottom line...we need productive players.

And chances are, as someone else mentioned, I will get more excited as the draft draws closer.

With us having high round picks last year and with us having two first round picks it just seemed to be more exciting going into the draft.

Now even without those high picks and without the second 1st round pick it just does not have the same luster as last year.

of course its not just you

I think it has to do with the difference of quality this year in the draft.

Maybe it is just me but it seems the number of top players, imo, is just not the same as last year.

Maybe it is just me but I am just not as excited about this draft as I was going into last years draft.

Hopefully that will change.

It's true when you're picking 11th and 20th you feel like the Cowboys are almost assured of a good draft- that in itself is exciting. At 18 you don't have the same feeling of the Cowboys being in control because they're not as much. Things may get a bit more interesting after the combine and FA, it's hard to get too carried away when we don't even know what we need to focus on in the draft.

There are players in this Draft that I like enough to get excited. It's a very deep draft at LB, OT, S, and DT which I think are our primary needs.

I'd agree about Safety and LB (especially), but OT is actually pretty thin...BIG talent drop off after Ferguson... Next best O lineman is probably Scott, not Mcneil. I'm praying that DT is not on the list this year either, especially Gabe Watson who has a terrible work ethic. Other than Ngata and Watson, there are no proven names up for grabs.

I think FA is the key to this draft. If we nail down some really important areas in FA, then we can narrow things down in the draft. I still think the value is in the middle rounds, and the thing to do is trade down if you can.

I think you have reached the most obvious conclusion my friend. I don't know why some are disagreeing with you. Yeah, it's not as exciting for a number of reasons. Players available in later rounds don't seem as talented as last years' crop We are not targetting high profile positions this year. We will likely choose an offensive tackle or a center. That's not very exciting.

Last year's draft was one of the weakest in years.

This year's draft is deeper than last years especially at positions like OLB, DL, and OL. This is another very weak WR class (last year was weak too, but was better than this one).

You are right in that last year everybody was an option, we had so many choices and a lot of needs. This year we don't have as many needs and our pick isn't as good.

Pokes, I'm not sure you're right on this. From what I hear, this year is weak at OT (a need), free safety (a need), WR (a need), and kicker (a need). LB is the only deep part of the draft that corresponds to immediate Cowboy needs. What I think that means is that we have a FAR worse chance of drafting players that can make an immediate impact. On the one hand it means the Cowboys are a better team, but on the other hand the odds of a great draft are pretty poor and even if we have a good draft we're not going to know it right away.

I can completely see where you are coming from with that perspective. For me, the overall success recently has me excited to see who we can get beyond the first round.

This Draft has starting talant deep into the 3rd round.

You left out an important word there: SOME, as in "some starting talent deep into the 3rd..."
....and maybe not that deep.
