...or do the automated answering systems never have the option you feel like you need? I swear I hate those things with a passion and if I owned a large business I would not use them. Talking to a human being gives you a sense that you will spend far less time on the phone.

Perfect timing, Hos. Dealing with this right now. No option I need and NO option to talk with a person? Unbelieveable...........

Nothing like going through 10 minutes of automated crap that is designed to get you to the right department only to get a live person say...your question is for a different department. :bang2:

I tell you what really chaps my backside...is the nerve of telemarketers calling your phone with an automated message to call them back. I guess I should look at it as a good thing as I don't have to listen so some spiel from a real person and hang up or tell them I am not interested...but still that is some serious crap that I get called by a recording and they have the nads to ask me to call them.

/rant off.

Every single time I run across one of those I automatically hit 0 to see if that will get me to a real person.

Exactly. :)

Another one that irks me is if you know who you want to talk to and the automated service gives you that....Type in the first (pick a number) of letters in the person's last name to bring up a ext list.

So you type in the required letters only for the service to say something along the lines of...no name was found.
:banghead:

That is why I loathe calling and knowing that you will most likely get an automated response and spend a while just getting any answer/live person.

Thankfully all of the services that I have to call I know the options so I just start punching the buttons I need to get to a person.

I do the same thing.

Oh I never get to a call back message. I hear an automated message I hang up. If it isn't a human voice I am not going to even listen.

I do that too. 9 times out of 10 you are on hold for 15 minutes or longer before a person can speak to you. Then you get someone and they have to transfer you to someone else and that takes another 5 minutes.

Automated phone systems are the devil.

Yup, that or I say "Representative" or "Agent". One of those usually works and gets me directly to a human.

Ever try to use a soft phone (like Skype) on some phone systems? If you haven't, you don't know what phone system aggravation is! :laugh2:

Normally I will hang up. Normally if I see a number I don't know on the ID calling (pops up on our TV)...I will just let it ring.

However I have been known to mess with some of them...even called back one of those numbers and pretended to be trying to sell something to them. :D

Yep, if it says private number when I see the ID, you need to leave me a voice mail. I will decide if I am going to call back or not.

Calling me from a toll free number is guaranteed to go unanswered.

There may be a list out there somewheres, not sure, but I think many of the major company systems have "back doors" coded in to them. Years ago when I worked at MCI and was a coder on one of these systems, we put in a back door of something like "##3" or something like that, I forget now...but it would immediately circumvent all the crap and ring a Real Live Human Being.

That usually works. This time the automation was for obtaining a new card as they hadn't sent me a new one. They kept asking for the card number and of course it was inactive; as of 01/11. "0" wouldn't work.

I just punched in a bunch of numbers and symbols at random, several times, when asked for the card number and finally got an operator.

I always love how they ask you to put in your account number or other piece of information, then 10 minutes later when you finally get to speak to some one they ALWAYS have to ask you what your account number is again. Why are you having me punch it in if they are going to ask for it again?
