I've said this before, but Monday Night Football, as we knew it, is history.

It'll never be the same again.

A very subpar broadcast crew on a cable network just doesn't cut it. They can go ahead and cue the music and try to make a big production of it, but it's just another football game now.

You remember the days before MNF? Wow was that really something when ABC decided to try showing a NFL game on Monday night. At first everyone was like, who wants to watch football on Monday night? It's popularity reached levels few thought it would be able to attain. Now, sadly, those days are ancient history - you are right pops. It won't ever be the same.

The biggest problem I have with ESPN doing the Monday Night package now is that it's not only going to be about the game for them on Monday. As one of their top level execs said last week, they plan to distribute the ESPN brand throughtout the entire day on the network. This includes doing shows such as Mike and Mike in the Morning, Sportscenter and PTI from the game site. It's going to be sensory overload and overexposure for ESPN. They paid the money and that is their right but let's face it, ESPN is doing a great job of turning the true sports fan away from watching their network for anything but the games themselves. The hype they spit out leading up to the games is just too much. Enough already! And of course this Monday night announcing crew is going to set broadcasting back to the dark ages. God I long for the days of Summerall-Madden, Enberg-Olsen and Cosell-Dandy Don-Gifford. It's not the same anymore but of course I will watch the games as any diehard NFL fan will. I just might be doing it with the sound off.

Well... how does that even count.. don't most people in Mexico watch it in Spanish? I understand your point though and I'm sure a lot of international viewers will have the same issues.
living on the border i get abc, cbs & nbc. used to get fox but not anymore. not sure if this year we'll get fox as we know it. good thing about it is that i can go to any bar across in brownsville and get espn. but then i would need a designated driver so it's a wash.

What I wouldnt give for it to go back to the good ole' days: NFC on CBS with Madden and Summerall, AFC on NBC with Enberg, Simms and Maguire (and the best theme music in football history), and MNF on ABC with Gifford, Dierdorf and Michaels

And don't forget those halftime highlights. Those were the best.

It doesn't seem like MNF to me. I keep thinking it's Sunday, although I'm glad we don't have to listen to Mike Patrick's over-the-top calls or Maquire.

No, just Joe Theisman's general dooshbaggery

When it's all said and done it doesn't really matter who is broadcasting, because there's nothing else on Sunday and Monday night....so I'll still be watching.

It's still the NFL.

Here in central Mexico "Sky Satellite" is showing the game in English. Also, the basic package includes NFL Network, and for about $100 you can get "Sunday Ticket".So its not too bad here.

Wouldn't you feel badly though when Summerall (for me the best of all time at play by play) dropped dead during a game?

I'm old enought to remember Pat Summerall and Tom Brooksheir who were a great crew in the 1970s.

Dick Enberg and Merlin Olsen were also great crews.

I was born in 1964 and have been a Cowboy fan since 1970. When I watched Monday Night Football, it was a treat.

Living in the Connecticut Valley in New Hampshire, I only had access to four channels. WCAX TV-3 in Burlington, Vt. (CBS), WNNE TV-31 in Lebanon-Hanover, NH and White River Junction, Vt. (NBC), WMTW TV-8 in Poland Springs, ME (ABC), and Vermont ETV (PBS).

There were several times when WMTW did not come in. Therefore, there were Cowboy games on Monday night that I could not see.

It wasn't until after I left for the Navy in 1983 that my folks finally splurged and bought a COLOR television!

So now, after being retired, I have a 52" HDTV DLP with DirecTV's NFL Sunday Ticket with the Superfan package.

And as I sit here watching the Raiders and Vikings in High Definition, I keep thinking how great this would have been if we would be able to watch Staubach, Dorsett, and the Doomsday Defense in High Definition.

One thing is for sure, I am really appreciating my new toy.

I EARNED IT!
