Is it Me? Or Was the Offensive Line Kinda Backwards Last Season?

I know its taboo to say but lets first hope he has the call on who plays where...i still question why players are placed at positions and never move now.."We drafted him to play LT and umm thats where he will play" i do believe the new OL coach and OC are an upgrade but only if they have the power to make the changes that need to be made....
This times infinity.
In Riley we trust.

And like you said here just hope that Coach Jerry doesnt end up having the final say on what players play as has been the case in the past.

Which was pretty much what we expected.
Absolutely not. Even for a developmental player no one is expecting results that bad.

For Tackles last year he was
17th in sacks given up (57th in overall pass block efficiency)
3rd most penalties
Not much to offer in the run game either.
56th in total snaps

That's not very good even for a rookie.

The hype on Guyton last year got insane after the Micah Parsons video and then a pretty good preseason from the guy. Week 1 hit and the guy was a total liability on the field.

He was bad. Shouldn't have been starting, as he needed development. This was known, not a secret.

Problem is, Jerry, as usual painted himself into a corner and was forced to start him. Insane. Should've signed a bridge OLT for a season.

He's not going to be a left tackle, IMO. Move him to right.

So, arm measurements have basically empowered the Zone to say Tyler should be a tackle.

That’s what this is all about.

And, honestly, 90% of the posters here don’t even know the “prototype” measurements and just churn the echo chamber.

The dude is a badass at Guard.

Can we just not be Madden armchair GMs for a minute and let it go?
Shoot, I was talking about how well he projected at guard right after he was drafted.

Then I saw him actually play LT. He's good there, too.

That's the thing about Tyler. He doesn't just have position flex. He can be above average at several spots.

Guyton and Martin blew up the TC plans for the Dallas o-line.

Martin due to injury and Guyton due to...you pick em. Inexperience, lack of drive, rookie blues, not in shape...

...He wasn't what the coaches and team expected.

If the bolded is true, then both coaches and team are complete idiots. Guyton was very raw coming in, and everyone knew it. How are you saying that we didn't?

The problem with the Cowboys FO is wanting the OL to be able to flex to other positions. This is absolutely ridiculous, I can understand if you want to have a swing tackle or a guard/center. But the others need to be able to develop a chemistry among themselves and repetitions are necessary.

If not, you wind up with players who are not masters of any one position. Put them at their best and strongest position. And leave them there.

What he showed last year was just lackluster.
I thought we'd already established that he was very raw and nowhere near ready to play OLT at the NFL level?

This was a well known fact coming in, dude. Gotta put that into your evaluation if you want to be accurate. Me? Huge questions mark. I'll have to see him play this year to see if he's started to take the Ginormous leap needed.

Yup. Ahem.....Tyler Smith....................

Why would Smith play LT. LT is hard and demanding. In Dallas you can be the highest paid O lineman in the league and play guard. Heck you can be old and washed up and hold out and be nearly the highest paid. It is basically the best gig in football.
