Is it really Jerry the GM's fault?

I think we're currently blaming the wrong guy here. Well, not the wrong guy, but the wrong role. I think Jerry has done an above average job at GM over the past few years. Now, don't go lining up previous drafts & trades on me. Jerry the GM has stunk it up for years. But now, he is not the problem.

My proof behind the "Jerry the GM is not to blame" concept is that most of us thought 12-4, 11-5 could be our record this year, even with a tough schedule. We are/were also considered by many experts to be one of the most talented teams in the League (at least at the beginning of the season). We must have believed that Jerry has been buying the right groceries overall.

What he hasn't been doing well is finding that SB-winning coach & assistants; ones which can teach, mold and shape that talent into a SB-winning team, which is Jerry the Owner's job, primarily.

Jerry the Owner has been shooting blanks for the past 15 years in hopes that he could find someone who was soft enough to bend to his will, but hard enough and smart enough to train & motivate millionaires to destroy their opponents. This hasn't happened.

Parcells was his closest attempt at getting a big-name, hard-line coach, but Jerry the GM hadn't bought the right groceries prior to that and the team couldn't live up to the demands Parcells placed upon it (Quincy Carter? Come on!)

Now that Jerry the GM has improved his ability to get talent, we have Wade Phillips trying to make the team believe he's a leader of men, when he isn't.

Based upon this season's current results, the logical conclusion is that Wade is not the answer and our only option is to wait until Jerry the Owner figures out that the next head coach must have a skillset that allows him to motivate, discipline and teach men to win football games. God help us.

The best way I can sum this up is like this: When your GM doesn't make the necessary changes at the HC positon, hires one of the most important coordinators without his HC's input, doesn't allow his HC to actually be a HC, then yes, your GM has failed in every conceivable way.

To collect talent on the level that the Cowboys have over the past 5-6 years and NOT put them in a position to win by doing whatever it takes to get the best coach for the job then, yes, your GM has failed.

To NOT realize that your HC doesn't have what it takes to coach Championship football (which was plainly evident after the Minnesota game, last year), and replace him while this window of talent is still open on this team then, yes, your GM has failed.

There has been one constant through the last 15 years of 1 playoff win with the Dallas Cowboys. Through hard nosed coaches to patsies. That one constant has been the GM. He has failed in the only way that matters...........Championships.

Champion his talent acquisition, his cap management, his stadium. At the end of the day, 1 playoff win in 15 years is a failure. Failure with only one constant. The GM.

He hired all the coaches. He makes sure we know who had the final say on all the players.

Who else is there to blame?
