Is It Talent, Coaching, or Both?

53 years later, no NFL HC has ever won the Super Bowl with two separate teams. Can you win a SB with talent, in spite of the HC?

So....is Dallas talented enough to truly compete with the other teams in the NFC or can coaching elevate the talent?

Reid has been to the AFCCG and won the NFCCG, he’s probably the closest.

Holmgren won the Super Bowl in the NFC and then made the SuperBowl with a team that was 3 years removed from being an AFC team.

John Fox made the Super Bowl in the NFC and the AFC, he’s actually the closest.

Bill Parcells won the Super Bowl in the NFC twice and made it again in the AFC, and then made the AFCCG again with a completely different team. No, HE’S the closest.

Jimmy Johnson won it in the NFC and made the AFC divisional round.

Tom Coughlin made 2 AFCCG’s before winning 2 NFC Super Bowls.

Tony Dungy lost the NFCCG in 1999, and then his successor proceeded to win the Super Bowl with what was largely Tony's team. He then won the AFC Super Bowl. That was a very close one.

Jon Gruden made the AFCCG and then lost the weird tuck rule game the next year in the divisional round when he was the AFC favorite and could very well have won the AFC Super Bowl. After that he went and won the NFC Super Bowl. You could actually argue he may very well have been the closest.

I think there are enough close calls that it’s more just random luck that no one has done it yet than actually some impossible feat.

Coaching matters, talent matters.

Great question. Obviously you have to have talent to win, but great coaches MAXIMIZE their talent. They take every player and squeeze every ounce of talent and effort they have.

To me, that’s the indictment of Garrett. The Cowboys don’t have th most talent, but they have enough talent to be doing better than they do.

Garrett’s downfall as a coach is his fear of failure. He manages as opposed to leading. Managers handle good field position with the thought, “I need to be careful not to blow this advantage.” Leaders take the same situation and think, “What a great opportunity to take advantage of.” That’s the difference between Jason Garrett and Sean McVay.

Don McCafferty won 32 of 52 games as an NFL head coach. One of them was Super Bowl V.

When we win it's talent....when we lose it's coaching.
Actually, the way we’re set up, when we win, we’re supposed to give Jerry his beloved”credit”, when we lose, Jerry of course finds a scapegoat.

When you both own AND run the team’s day to day operations, apparently that means you can choose what you like to get credit for, while also avoiding the accountability for 23 years of mediocrity. And Jerry got to set this tidy arrangement up as soon as his ownership check cleared the bank.

Both, in a landslide.

If you are lacking in one, you have to be dominant in the other to win it all.

So you say they don't have the most talent, but should be better than what they are, like what? Since having that talent, they've won the division 2 out of last 3 seasons, with a trip to 2 divisional rounds, so where does their talent say they should be?

we have more than enough talent... if not to reach the super bowl, to at least get out of the second round

Lol....most people say Dak sucks, before that Witten and Dez washed up, before this year, they said the defense stunk. Enough?
