Is It Time To Panic?

This is just ridiculous. In the last two days, listening to different radio outlets, I think I've hear this question brought up about the Cowboys offense at least 3 times. Seriously??

First, let me counter that with another common theme...it's the preseason. Yes, there are areas in which the team needs to improve. I wasn't impressed with the OL play the other night, and I'm really starting to wonder if Romo to Roy will ever work. But to go nuts because they failed to get in the endzone in 3 series (the first team anyway) is, to me, just losing perspective. And you can bash the playcalling all you want, but for one, I think they're using the preseason to work on plays that they're not sure about, and in general, I've always been a believer that execution is more important than the actual play call. If it works, it's a great call. If it doesn't, then it was terrible.

Second, and I can't emphasize this enough, it is NEVER time to panic. In anything. I'm an athletic trainer. I deal with athletes getting hurt all the time. Someone goes down, and players, coaches, fans, parents, etc, are going nuts. But if I panic, am I going to help that person? Not a chance. Do doctors save lives by panicking? Do business people make money by panicking? Of course not. As Cramer says, "Nobody ever made a dime by panicking." And the Cowboys won't get one point better by panicking. It can be argued that the Roy deal was a panic move, and how did that work out?

Are there areas that need work? Absolutely. Should they maybe work harder and longer in practice on these areas? Sure. Get different personnel? If warranted. Put on a couple of pots of coffee and stay at VR a little longer to figure things out? Okay. But panic? Please.

Yeah, I know the media loves to throw out words like "panic", "disaster", "catastrophe". They invoke a strong emotional response, and people will tune in. But it's not just the media. In this forum, I've read panic. After two preseason games. "We still can't score in the red zone! It's been this way for two years!!" "Kitna is terrible! We'll never win anything with him. It'll be just like 2008!!" Come on. I won't deny it's concerning. I know 2008 was bad. I know last year was excrutiatingly frustrating at times. But no matter how rough it gets, it still doesn't warrant panic. That won't solve anything.

Funny they don't talk about the defense. You never see headlines like "Defense only gives up meaningless TD after long return" or "Is Doomsday III here?"

They will be when the season starts, the REAL season that is.. This D is nasty, aggressive, fast, mature, hungry, and well coached...

I'm worried about Colombo, nothing more. He looks out of shape, overweight, unathletic and a player who may not have "it" anymore.

I said right before the draft that Colombo should have been the one we released and not Flozell. Flozell should have been moved to RT and Free at LT.

What makes it even worse is that the Brewster experiment is failing; the guy is a guard, so the only real backup at RT is Sam Young.

Young may end up being a starter or at worst a solid backup, but the kid is a rookie and most likely won't be ready to step into action if Colombo goes down. I have serious doubts if Colombo can make it through a full season.

Three more pre-season games will figure it out if Brewster or Young can handle the job or not. Obviously the team will be watching the cuts from other teams . There could be quality tackles or O-L let go ,just for the sake of cash , we may need to get some insurance a la ( Monster-fat Holland ) .

Barron would replace Colombo if it came to that. Not Young.

And this is what worries me because Barron is NOT made for the right side. Colombo was a good RT because he had the necessary toughness and pure strength to handle those powerful rushers. Barron is not strong at the point of attack, hence why he's been on the left side for the majority of his career.

3 series and 2 FGs. How many other teams would love to have that type of start to the preseason with their first unit? The whole thing is just silly.

Teamwork.

Once again this year I see a offense, a defense, but not a team.

I see a OL coach who is a great tactician, but I don't see continuity in the OL, better yet, I don't see a "us against them" mentality from the front five. I see five individuals trying to get their assignments done.

This has been the case for a while, I hope it changes, or it could be bad.

Hope for the best.

No need to panic, this season will just be another continuation of Jerruh mediocrity and Wade & Garrett incompetence.

Am I worried? Absolutely not. We'll be amazing this year.

But Colombo is worth keeping an eye on.

Eventually I would think all of these terrible leg injuries will catch up to him.

Who gives a crap what the media thinks? I actually like all the national doubt. I'll be happy if all the "experts" talk about for the next three weeks is how overrated the Cowboys are and how the Skins are going worst to first.

Care to elaborate? I don't see any of this, at all.

Preseaon is what it is ! there are still 3 games to go. We always play boring vanilla football, only using other plays when there is things to work on. Beisdes with the short week we didnt practice at all so. No big deal to me. Prossman

If Tony keeps getting back issues every time he gets hit, Ima panic.

Thats the only thing that really scares me too

The O has proven in the past even with Roy W and withoug Dez that it can score when Romo is healthy.

The D though is going to be special so that could carry the team through any offensive slumps, im not sure its good enough to carry John Kitna though

Is It Time To Panic?

Yes...of course.

We should always view the Cowboys' performance in the 2nd pre-season game as indicative of how they will play in the coming season.

Pardon me...I need to finish my Drano cocktail. :bang2:

:lmao:
