This is just ridiculous. In the last two days, listening to different radio outlets, I think I've hear this question brought up about the Cowboys offense at least 3 times. Seriously??
First, let me counter that with another common theme...it's the preseason. Yes, there are areas in which the team needs to improve. I wasn't impressed with the OL play the other night, and I'm really starting to wonder if Romo to Roy will ever work. But to go nuts because they failed to get in the endzone in 3 series (the first team anyway) is, to me, just losing perspective. And you can bash the playcalling all you want, but for one, I think they're using the preseason to work on plays that they're not sure about, and in general, I've always been a believer that execution is more important than the actual play call. If it works, it's a great call. If it doesn't, then it was terrible.
Second, and I can't emphasize this enough, it is NEVER time to panic. In anything. I'm an athletic trainer. I deal with athletes getting hurt all the time. Someone goes down, and players, coaches, fans, parents, etc, are going nuts. But if I panic, am I going to help that person? Not a chance. Do doctors save lives by panicking? Do business people make money by panicking? Of course not. As Cramer says, "Nobody ever made a dime by panicking." And the Cowboys won't get one point better by panicking. It can be argued that the Roy deal was a panic move, and how did that work out?
Are there areas that need work? Absolutely. Should they maybe work harder and longer in practice on these areas? Sure. Get different personnel? If warranted. Put on a couple of pots of coffee and stay at VR a little longer to figure things out? Okay. But panic? Please.
Yeah, I know the media loves to throw out words like "panic", "disaster", "catastrophe". They invoke a strong emotional response, and people will tune in. But it's not just the media. In this forum, I've read panic. After two preseason games. "We still can't score in the red zone! It's been this way for two years!!" "Kitna is terrible! We'll never win anything with him. It'll be just like 2008!!" Come on. I won't deny it's concerning. I know 2008 was bad. I know last year was excrutiatingly frustrating at times. But no matter how rough it gets, it still doesn't warrant panic. That won't solve anything.
