Is it time to rebuild

After the seeing last nite, and the last few years of this team ,is it time to rebuild? Should we let some vets go and make some serious noise like Jimmy Johnson did.

We've got to admit to ourselves that we are not that close to being a contending team.

Plugging in parts here and there is just not making it.

I think it is painfully obvious that we are not a contender and we are not 1 or 2 players away either. We are going to need a major overhaul in both talent and coaching before we can compete for a SB championship.

So yes, I think we are entering a rebuilding era.

It was pretty obvious this offseason we where rebuilding by cutting the players we did and that they wanted more gone because if Nami was signed Newman would have been gone. They just could not purge everyone they wanted. They also went with a lot of young guys not older vet stop gaps on the oline.

They also added cap flexibility for this next year to be more active in FA where there should be more solid depth available.

The worse part is they had chances again and they failed the same players came up short when the spotlight came on for a 3rd coach.

The last of those players should be purged thank goodness and expect more coaching changes because they went after several coaches but where not able to get them due to the lockoiut and hanging on to guys. Look for Campo to be gone and my guess a few more maybe even Joe of Special teams since they cost us three games and two where just downright un acceptable. The blocked punt and the blocked FG in the first Giants win

We are several years away - but having said that - we have players who we can certainly work with (Smith, Murray, Lee, Ware etc.)

We need help in the trenches and a secondary.

This defense needs help at every level, starting with coaching (and I'm talking about Campo)

Rob Ryan was an extreme disappointment. For all the talk about all the exotic packages they were coming up with in practice during the preseason, and allll the players were so excited about it, you really didnt see any of that in the regular season. I wonder why

Yep, we're just putting out fires. Keep the young nucleus and rebuild around them. The O really needs only a few OL and a young QB to groom, but the defense needs some work.

I wouldn't be opposed to trading Ware or Witten if the price was RIGHT.

Also a 4-3 DC wouldn’t break my heart either. After seeing Rob's comments before the game, he's like the rest of his family, all about himself. Later.

Totally agree on this. While they started the process on the OL, they will need to start the process on the vastly overrated defensive side this offseason.

DE is horrible. This team is desperate for a Defensive End that can put pressure on the QB.

OLB - Teams can block our ends and Spencer one on one the vast majority of the time with no problems, but if the choice is to either go for a DE or OLB, then the choice is pretty obvious. Spencer has some moments at least.

ILB - If Carter is anywhere near as good as Lee, then the ILBs could be much better in 2012, but they need to draft for depth.

DB - Good night, Newman just fell off a cliff the last part of the season. He is this offseason's Leonard Davis. Easy cut. Dallas is going to need another DB. Huge priority.

Safety - Elam was serviceable, as was Gerald, but Dallas needs better from one of those spots in this current league and Sensy was just signed to an extension.

O-line - How obvious is it that Dallas needs to get a Center and a Guard this offseason. And holy crap, Doug Free was a freaking turnstyle against the Giants and Eagles. Almost across the entire O-line, the Giants and Eagles just dominated the LOS in all four games. Consistantly dominated. If they don't get better in the interior, then just mark Dallas as 0-4 in the East prior to playing a down against the Giants or Eagles next season.

Oh well, another December collapse to hear about for another year. JJT, Marshal Faulk and crew woke up very happy this morning.

Rebuilding is one thing, but unless SOMEONE realizes the dearth of talent on both sides of the ball is serious, the same rebuilding effort that has occurred since 1995 just is not going to improve the team.

The offensive line is a perfect example of mis-managing the team. Gurode, Davis, Colombo, and Kosier all got old at the same time. Colombo and Davis were rejects from their former teams, neither of which were powerhouse teams to begin with. Colombo got hurt, and Free steps in and plays well at right tackle. So the brain trust moves Free to left tackle, brings a hurt Colombo back to play right tackle, and the team trudges through another season. But it was all fixed in 2011 when they drafted Smith, except, they move Kosier to right guard to help the rookie, and leave Free on an island with garbage for a left guard. To make matters worse, they cut a serviceable center without a center on the team to take his place.

The defensive line is a similar disaster. Retreads or free agents on both ends, and an undersized nose tackle. They had no chance to succeed.

Rebuild? More like re-franchise.

The defense is light years away from being dominant, but the offense isn't.

Right now the Cowboys offense is in good (or better) shape at QB, WR, TE, and OTs (flip Free and Tryon). They need three interior linemen, a solid FB upgrade, and a quality RB to complement Murray and surpass Felix Jones.

We don't have a Jimmy Johnson Just a Jerry Jones

I think there's certain segments of our team that need to be rebuilt.

Unfortunately they're some of the most crucial: interior offensive line, inside linebacker, and the secondary. I think we could use depth at OLB. I don't think Spencer needs to be cut but it wouldn't be a bad thing to have someone young and promising to rotate in.

I think Jenkins and Scandrick are serviceable as 2nd and 3rd corners, but I really hope we get someone this year to replace Newman. Newman was nothing short of great for us, but his time has come, as does every player's.

I hope we're able to do as much hole-plugging as possible over the offseason and not try to pretend someone like Costa might turn out to be good like we did this year.

Extremely disappointing season when you consider the ease of our schedule and how well our quarterback played despite his top receiver going down and his line, particular the interior, being an abomination.

You mean erotic? As reknown wordsmith Deion Sanders would say.

What happened to the packages though? Well it works like this....Rob Ryan tried teaching an advanced playbook without a full offseason to a unit of bumbling idiots who don't know where to line up most of the times.

I don't have confidence in Jerry to plug the holes, ... I sure don't have the confidence in him to do a complete rebuild.

So where does that leave us?

16 years of watcing other teams succeed.

Newman is really hurting this team. We need a guy who will press hard off the line and make the wide out work to get open. He just gives them there 10-15 yard get up and go and gets burned. He did have a decent year for INT's but this teams ranking is not good for take a aways in that category. We need that

The problem with this team is the expectations that surrounds it. Jerry Jones is a salesman and he is trying to sell everyone, something that we are not....A Contender! He wants to put fans in the stands and have the football universe, travel through Dallas. I really believe he loves his players and trusts them too much. I can't wait to hear Jerry's sales pitch for next season. If you read the posts of our fans; almost everyone at some point mentioned our short comings....Offensive line, Secondary and Ware needs help.

Well you got to admit Doug Free lived up to his name should rename him Doug Free Shot he looked so funny chasing his guy toward Romo.I am tired of hearing abour Romo at least he tried here.Newman and Free and on and on did not.
