Is it too early to discuss Elam & Sensy

First off, no one's saying these guys are all-world, but its amazing what having 2 reliable safeties can do for a defense. You really don't hear Elam's name a whole lot during the game, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. He and Sensy have both done their jobs, and done it well.

It should also be noted that both guys are on 1 year deals, so is this something where we:
- let it ride out all year and hope to resign both guys in the offseason
- look to the bottom of the roster or draft for new safeties next year
- offer an extension to one or both guys before the season ends

Elam just turned 30 and Sensy is 28. How does CZ see this thing playing out?

Sens has up'd his game IMO. He got aggressive on that one play and the D got burned a bit, but I like the aggressiveness. Had he been lined up a bit further out, I think he had himself a pick6. That's something that can be fixed.

We've only given up one pass play of 40 yards or more.

And that was Branch's little short catch that he turned into 45 with his yards after catch yesterday.


Elam + Sensi will not give you anything deep. This is bend but don't break to perfection.

Its not too early. Dallas is really missing either a ball hawk FS or Hammer at SS. Both of our safeties are in middle of the pack compared to their peers.

I think Sensy is playing at near pro-bowl level. Not quite pro bowl, but he's a notch or 2 from it.

Elam has been solid as a rock, haven't heard his name, haven't looked at him chasing some receiver from behind. It's nice to also see them in the picture when the ball is thrown to a good receiver, shows that they know how to properly double-team a guy, unlike years past.

I have also been pleased with the play of both Safeties. They are not great by any means, but they haven't been a liability either.

There is still a part of me that wants the Cowboys to draft a stud Safety in the first round next year. They really need a gamechanger in the secondary.
