So with the recent media frenzy concerning Jerry and his "role" as Cowboys Owner, GM and sideline supporter, do you guys think he is just bluffing and wants us all to believe that he is the one calling the shots?

Think about it for a second........ ok you're second is up.

When the day comes (if it ever does) and the Cowboys win another Super Bowl, don't you all think that Jerry wants us all to believe that he built the team that won it?

Switzer made some interesting comments yesterday on ESPN saying that Jerry is involved, but not as much as he wants us to believe.

Aikman also said that Jimmy built the teams. Yet, we hear Jerry saying he did.

I believe what I've been told by numerous sources that work in the organization.

He doesn't call the shots.

He has the final say.

Big difference.

He can dictate what in general he wants from a player perspective, style of play, etc. But it's a group decision environment. And if nobody can come up with a clear consensus on a decision, he then makes the decision himself because he's got the final say.

Jerry is an idiot.

There is a reason this team has not been competitive for 17 years.

I am afraid that al the media attention now to his GM role will make him Dig in for the long haul. Last few years I thought I saw signs of transitioning to Stephen Jones but if JJ turns course and digs in, we will be the Oakland Raiders...

It's not that Jerry calls every shot, it's just that the coach knows he is limited as to what he can do, like benching Felix is not a option. Worse yet, the players know the coach is limited also, and there's the real problem.

It's hard for me to believe that Dez Bryant was a clear consensus decision by everyone involved.

Really good point.

There was no way everyone in the room was onboard with the Dez Bryant selection.

Maybe they couldn't decide on Dez, so Jerry made up their minds for them.

He is the owner and has that right but shouldn't be overruling the guys he hired to make those Football decisions.

JJ Must Stop Doing Day To Day stuff.

Thinking that it's easy for a coach to bench players never ceases to amaze me.

You have 45 game day active players. We bench Felix, that leaves us with Tanner and Dunbar and Tanner was *awful* in pass protection. Tanner screws up on a blitz, Romo could get hurt. Just compounding problems instead of trying to stop problems.

If a coach doesn't like a player, chances are that they have to wait until the end of the season to get rid of them.

Thanks for hijacking the thread.

As pointed out, It would seem to be in character for Jerry to be instrumental in originating the high profile draft picks and FA acquisitions, as well as all of the projects and injury prone, legally challenged, discounts that we acquire via trade or draft - some good, some bad.

No doubt Jerry schemed all of the supplicant head coaching hires. Can you imagine a room full of football professionals arriving at the conclusion that Barry Switzer, Dave Campo and Wade Phillips were the best Head Coaching choices available? Jerry has also probably enforced retention of beyond-their-expiration-date assistant coaches like Campo and Joe D, for non football-related considerations .

More importantly, as Woodson and Johnson suggested, the players know that they answer to Jerry the coddler first and the the coaches 2nd, probably even under Parcells, and that is not an effective way to manage any team. IMO, this is why the repetitive stupid mistakes on the field, never get fixed.

Funny you mention this... I am also afraid of the same exact thing. I would like to actually see us hoist another Lombardi trophy before I hit rocking chair status.

I'm thinking a **coach** would have the 2 players behind a starter ready to play.

I was using Felix as an example, and he's always there if you need him, and likely a little more motivated than before. There's a difference between cutting and benching. So yes, it is that easy to bench a player for a 1/4,1/2, or a whole game, just to send a message.

Agree...and if the next guys cant step up then you have to ask why are they are the roster. Backups have ceilings and some clear level of fall off from a starter but if they cant not handle being in a game at all, then you need to bring someone else in and have a look at your FO who is bringing in these flawed guys. Its a catch 22, they don't develop because they cant play and they can't play because they are to flawed to see the field.
