I'm a big Romo fan and up until this point have been all for putting Romo back as the starting QB when he is healthy. I believe Romo would be the better QB at reading defenses and schemes if we were to reach playoff caliber teams. I believe Tony has done a lot to keep this team relevant when over the last several years and deserves the right to play behind this line and Zeke.
That being said, I think that if Jerry was to force Romo to come back against Philly or Cleveland and should be rusty or have a bad game, that fans will immediately be calling for his head. There will be zero room for mistakes and bad play. Lets face it....while Romo may be better at deciphering defensives schemes, Daz brings a whole different set of skills that Romo no longer has. Dak is 10 times more mobile than Romo. Dak is an obvious threat to run when protection breaks down, on bootlegs and designed option plays. Dak brings a threat that Tony wont. Dak has the players playing hard for him and have become comfortable with a game plan that suits Daks skills. This is a different Cowboy team with Dak on the field. Now I'm not saying we wouldn't be 6-0 with Tony because we probably would. But I like the style of play, the confidence this team has, and the chemistry Dak has built with these players, and more importantly the coaches.
As a Romo fan, I think the best thing for this team is to allow Dak to keep playing like he has and keep Romo on the sidelines. Should Dak struggle or teams start to "figure him out" and we start struggling, then we have Romo come in to hopefully do what we all think he can do. Should Dak and this team continue to win and grow, then its his team to lose. It would be unfair for Romo to come in, struggle, get booed, and then get benched. That would really put a bad taste in his mouth at the end of his career. Romos time may come.....but under these circumstances now is not the time.
