Is John Beck The QB We Should Target In The Draft ?

It's a beautiful town, you ought to make a trip down that way, you'll love it. Take Route 10, you can avoid the trucks on I-81, plus it's very scenic.

One of these days, I might do the tourist thing, slip down and check out the Natural Bridge, and the wax museum they have there... ain't that always the way, you'll drive 12 hours to see some tourist attraction or another, but won't go visit the ones in your own back yard... LOL...

I must have lived here for 20-25 years before I attended my first reenactment of the Battle of New Market, and that's less than ten minutes from my front door... and I'm a Civil War buff...

Beck got some major props from Vic Carucci today. Here's his top 5 QB list.

http://www.nfl.com/draft/story/10056516

1. JaMarcus Russell, LSU (Underclassman)

Positives: Exceptional arm strength; no one comes close to matching him in this category in college football and he might not even have an equal in the NFL ... Accuracy, especially on longer throws ... Quick release ... Massive size (6-foot-5-plus, 265 pounds) that allows him to tower in the pocket and makes it extremely difficult for defenders to get him to the ground ... Field vision and ability to locate open receivers; when moving to avoid pressure, he keeps his eyes downfield and still looks to make a pass ... Poise in the pocket, which was particularly impressive in the biggest game of his career, the Sugar Bowl victory against Notre Dame.

Negatives: Although the sheer power of his arm usually allowed him to overcome problems with his throwing mechanics in college, he will need to work on being more consistent with footwork and delivery to maximize his production at the next level ... Bulk and strength work to his advantage, but his ideal playing weight is closer to 255 pounds.

2. Brady Quinn, Notre Dame

Despite some struggles, including the Sugar Bowl, Brady Quinn should be a top pick.
Despite some struggles, including the Sugar Bowl, Brady Quinn should be a top pick.
Positives: Steady growth and development in an advanced, NFL-style offense ... Two years of coaching he received from Charlie Weis, who knows how to get the very best from a quarterback at any level ... Intelligence and ability to go through progressions and find open receivers ... Accuracy on shorter passes ... Throwing technique; more times than not, he gets the most from his arm by using proper footwork and follow-through ... Overall athleticism, which allows him to avoid pressure and scramble for decent gains, and strength ... Quick release.

Negatives: Pure arm strength, which doesn't always allow him to make up for imperfections in his delivery ... Consistent accuracy on longer passes ... Struggled in some of the bigger games of his collegiate career, especially the Sugar Bowl.

3. John Beck, Brigham Young

Positives: Intelligence and decision-making ... Ability to read defenses and pick up blitzes ... Pocket poise ... Quick release ... Accuracy on short and intermediate passes ... Ability to develop good timing with his receivers ... Ability to avoid pressure ... Better performances vs. stronger teams on BYU's schedule.

Negatives: Height (6-2) and thin frame ... Arm strength ... Sidearm delivery, which, coupled with his height, makes his passes susceptible to being knocked down at the line.

4. Kevin Kolb, Houston

Positives: Arm strength, especially on deep routes ... Size (6-3-plus, 218 pounds) ... Accuracy on short and intermediate passes ... Field vision ... Ability to avoid the rush and scramble ... Leadership skills and toughness.

Negatives: Limited exposure to pro-style, deep passing game in college ... Showed poor decision-making on throws through most of his college career, although he made significant strides as a senior.

5. Drew Stanton, Michigan State

Positives: Arm strength ... Size (6-3-plus, 226 pounds) and overall strength ... Athleticism ... Extremely competitive and tough.

Negatives: Tendency to force passes into coverage ... Locks onto primary receiver too often ... Doesn't always show enough patience in the pocket ... Overall accuracy ... Needs to be more consistent with footwork and throwing mechanics.

Do it, it will be worth your while.

I meant Route 11, not 10. Sorry.

Natural Bridge is awesome. Route 11 runs right over the top of it to this day. Make sure you walk the entire trail. George Washington surveyed the area as a young man and to this day you see his initials under the Natural Bridge. May would be the perfect month to go see it.
The wax muesem is so-so...I'm not really into that type of the thing.
Anytime you would like any info as to the cool places to see in VA, contact me. I know every part of this great Commonwealth like the back of my hand.

Probably would, I've always liked wax museums... even been to Tussaud's in London... my high school basketall team had a pair of games against the Army high school; our road trips were so distant (Berlin and Rota, Spain were two stops) that we'd go play a game on Friday night, spend the night in the BOQ's (Bachelor's Officer's Quarters) on base, then play another game on Saturday... we did a little bit of sightseeing between the two games in London...

Aw, I knew what you meant...
Great. Route 11 is a lot more relaxing than I-81. You can still go 62mph or so, yet be about the only car on the road! Can't stand all those trucks on 81.

I'm the exact opposite-- I don't like all the traffic signals, slowing down to 35 to go through every small town in western Virginia...

The only time truckers bother me is in the snow... those fools don't seem to be bright enough to realize they ought to slow down, and they scare the bejesus out of me on days like that... I know I'm a good driver in that kind of weather, because I've got some sense, but what am I supposed to do if some moron trucker starts fishtailing while he's tryin' to pass me at 75??

Only 2 of those "slow downs" between Waynesboro & Lexington. Very nice quick paced drive. I like the lack of traffic to enjoy the scenery.

I suggest you pick up 11 out of New Mkt and take it all the way down to "The Bridge". Great scenary and a relaxing drive. Beats the heck out of having some idiot truck driver trying to pass you at 90MPH while going downhill just so he can get enough momentum to get up the next hill. LOL. Make it a great day my friend.

I hate I-81.

Yeah, but I'd have to take 11 through Harrisonburg, Bridgewater, Dayton before that...

There are some roads around here that I like to take for the view... 211 over the mountain to Luray is a spectacular drive, almost like driving through the Rockies, the road winds back and forth...

And of course, the view out my front windows is pretty spectacular, without even leaving the house... the only drawback is after the trees bud, I can't pull in the signal from DirecTV's hi-def satellite... I lose like 2/3 of my hi def channels for six months out of the year... that'll be happening in about a month... :bang2:

I just don't mind the traffic on 81... I drive 50 miles of it back and forth to work every single night (of course, at 10PM just about all you have out there IS truckers)...

For sure, it's not an I-95... that road really does suck...

I drive on 11 when I'm running errands around the county, IF I'm not in a hurry... you're right, it tends to be less travelled...

BTW, I rather like it that we've moved on past the hostility stuff... same with Philo... even when I had to disagree with you earlier today, I kept in mind that we were being civil...

It's kinda funny how often I wind up on cordial terms with folks that I once snarled at... ice could tell you about that, LOL... I guess I'm just the sort to find some good in most everybody, once I take a little time to get to know them...

It may take me a few decades to find the good in SOME of the posters in here, though... :D

You can jump off 81 onto Rt. 11 at just about any time. I'd do it south of Staunton so you can enjoy the last hour or so.

This whole thread needs to be moved to the Members forum.
:bang2:

Pretty hard to follow what little thread of continuity there is on the Beck/Rascati discussion, mixed with the folksy directions as it is. Too much "love" for a sports message board, IMO.
