Is KeVante Turpin on the hot seat?

Not with the kick returner we had on Saturday.
Yeah they don't get it sometimes you have to have a separate field kicks because they're not as good at fielding punts punts are really hard field and then you have to also play WR4 you have to be already on the active game day roster because you can't have guys take up multiple spots when you have one guy that can do all 3...

It’s ‘enamored with UDFA WR’ season.

WHY would you cut the best returner in the league??

He is also capable of a big play on offense from time to time. Would be absurd to cut him and he wouldn’t be out of work very long.

They aren’t cutting him to keep Anthony Smith. Sorry
:hammer:

I was just listening to 105.3 the Fan & Brad Sham and interesting they brought up the question is Turpin a lock to make the roster? Interestingly,, Its a contract year for Turpin and what has he shown us lately. Was he a difference maker last year..Nope....I mean, he does two basic things, runs a jet sweep and is one of the highest paid special team players in the NFL. There is not much that Turpin does that cant be replaced by someone else... Does Turpin do anything better, I dont think so,has teams caught on how the Cowboys use him (yeah) or has Turpin lost a step because the cat is out of the bag with Turpin that shiny new player has slowed down and is becoming irrelevant .

Either way, IMO Turpin could be a surprise cut or trade as he is replaceable
Turpin is signed through 2027.

I will say this...they seem to like Mingo. Brown has stepped up. Can't see Jerry admitting Schoonadoodle was a bust. Plus Trigg looks like the real deal. These do not favor Turpin. Only so many WR and TE spots available.

BTW I think Turpin is massively overrated around here.

I don’t understand the Turpin hate…..he’s on the team for what he can potentially offer as a returner. Other teams have to think about kicking the ball to him. He’s still an asset to have for that reason.
I can’t comprehend it much either.
Is a specialist, maybe that’s the issue, they expect more from him then he can do

Not for what he does I think, but because of what he doesn’t do,
He’s a special team superstar. I say keep him.

I know but it is a numbers game. You can see a surprise coming.
I have to say, I’m curious also,
They tried three different people against Seattle punt, kickoff returns
Seattle didn’t score enough for us to really see what was happening, lol but you could possibly be right

The idea that Turpin is some kind of gamebreaking kick returner is silly. He is pedestrian.

Of players with at least 15 KR, he ranked T-22 in average.

And he is a flat out poor punt returner. Part of returning punts is actually catching them, and his decision making in that regard is horrific. I think it was the Minnesota game where he let one bounce at like the 35 and it rolled all the way inside the 5 yardline. At least Patrick Crayton caught everything.

They're not going to cut him, but he's not a difference maker.

Yeah that's your problem you're missing my point don't tell me anything he did not underperform That's like saying every defender on the defense underperformed without actual perspective we all know what happened last year A lot of those dudes look bad because who they were playing with I already explained it to you maybe you don't understand how the special teams is put together with a bunch of players mostly defenders occasionally some receivers some running backs when you have a rash of injuries and now you're using guys who normally would just play special teams starting on your defense it makes all your rest of your defense bad but now you've already weakened your special teams which by the way most people thought it was the fault of the new coach and that would also be somewhat wrong as well because again there's too many injuries it affects the special teams the blocking and whatnot he was a new coach maybe they need to fix some stuff..

It does take up another active day roster spot he does two things offense and special teams he does them pretty damn well I don't know what else to tell you but if you had to bring in another guy to do it or make another guy who already doesn't do it do it that's active and it won't be Brown or Mingo Probably not gonna be flow either..

The only two players that have a chance to be able to do a dual role on active game day would probably be Blue or Israel that could be a kick returner and a punt returner which by the way a lot of guys can't do both that's why you usually have running backs and some low level guys at kick return because it's relatively less tough to feel those catches instead of the punts oh that's right turpin can do both of those he does both of those well he doesn't need to be replaced because he's also there for the offense and he has some of the biggest places from scrimmage..

Yes it would take up another roster spot on game day the active roster you're very limited you do not need to bring another guy or put another guy in harm's way that has not done a damn thing from what I've seen there's nobody yet that have taken enough snaps or punts whether it's in scrimmages or practice or PS games..

You all are delusional if you think just anybody could turpin does it is tough to field punts but he still was at the top in both return games in yardage and whatnot the whole team was bad on special teams in defense last year and putting it all on him is where you don't get my point...
Yes. The coaching was bad. The players were bad. Including Turpin. It's not a wild claim.
If you only dress 4 receivers on gameday, then yes, its a number game. He would never make an NFL roster if he was ineffective at returns. He could never make it as a receiver only. So why would we want that guy getting snaps at receiver even on a limited basis. Stop acting like you are the only one who knows how NFL rosters work. You're not special.

I think Holden played his way off the team. Maybe he makes it back to the practice squad, but even that might be a long shot at this point.
That goal-line fumble was so bad. You just can't do that. lol Especially when you're trying to make an NFL roster.

Yep.

Plainly showed the he had no idea what he was doing and had no business being out there.

Another indictment of the special teams coach if you ask me.

Overall, that group looks like a mess. Possibly even worse than last season.

He is the 4thor 5th WR for sure
He is great on special teams return
He brings special teams to the table.
He can give you a few gadget plays per game with his spèd.

I don’t think Turpin should be thought of as receiver #3, 4, et cetera. Rather, he is your primary return guy and gadget player in the offense that you sprinkle in.

In other words, I think the team should go five deep at receiver + Turpin, rather forcing him to be one of your Top 5 receivers.

The fact that he did not play says no.

Turpin has gravity on the field. Defensive coordinators might not gameplan specifically for him but they’re aware and accountable of him. He was great at his role last year. Go listen to
Other teams podcast the week they face the cowboys and what the defense needs to do and you’ll hear Turpin name come up

My guess is Turpin makes it but his only true value is on kick returns. As a WR he’s a gadget play guy at best who probably hurts you being on the field if the rest of your WRs are healthy.

If the cowboys have a legitimate replacement on special teams I could absolutely see Turpin being cut/traded. His AP award last year is more so due quantity over quality.
