Ice seen guys with average productive get drafted higher because they ran 4.6. Also locate awful against the run as a edge but he's still a great player. Lawrence is taller and bigger than micah. He's heavier than both d ware and d law coming out. The only one hos as fast as him is micah. 4.52 is pretty amazing for a pass rusher. Von miller as only about 4.53. Ware as 4.65. D law was 4.80. A t the combine. He played heavier so he was likely a 4.9 in his prime. I think we should give him every chance to be a star as a rookie.

Eh. Talk to me about his skills, not his measurables. Are QBs with the same height, weight, and (lack of) speed as Tom Brady gonna be just as good? So far he's been given the same label as another first rounder of ours, Guyton. Raw and developmental. Up to him to ultimately shed it. I'm not expecting anything from him this year but him getting up to speed over the season is bonus.

I think people should be patient at first, because he's facing a huge jump in competition and IMO he needs a lot of refinement. I don't really buy all this about him having this fully developed toolbox of moves. To me, he needs good coaching and a lot of reps to hone his game and eliminate some bad habits. I also think he can and will gain at least 5-8 pounds of muscle -- he has the frame for it.

But I think his burst and athleticism make it worth waiting for. By the end of this year and especially next year he could be a real weapon.

this, can the same be said about all the rest of the drafted players??? Damn what they did in college, this is a different scence
Right? Taco had the "traits", too, but Watt was supposed to be the one. ☝️

The media prospective is that he's the 'right kind if guy'. I'm optimistic about him, and we only need him to rotate this year.

We can play him in pass rushing situations while he hopefully develops as a run-stopper.

The tools are pretty obvious. He has instant speed off the snap and has developed a very good arsenal of pass rush moves, like unusually good for a college player. Those will translate easily as an OLB edge rusher.

Equally obvious is his lack of play strength, and that won't get better as the athletes blocking him also get better.

I don't think he'll be a star without a power-move changeup in his bag, but he is fast fast, and will get a couple of sacks with that speed alone. I'd comp him to Dante Fowler.

He's an explosive player who needs to develop an inside counter to his outside rush. He's got good length and supposedly does well with his hand use. He just doesn't really have a power game. NFL tackles are good. They will get back to counter his speed and push him wide. I also didn't see great bend, although the team says he has it. The best pass rushers are able to dip and bend once they capture the edge so that they can take the shortest path to the QB.

I think he's going to do well against power tackles but have some trouble with finesse tackles or good movers where he can't just use his speed to get around them. Even if he was an early first-round pick like Abdul Carter last year, though, it's just tough to transition to the NFL and have immediate success. Most need an offseason in the team's strength program and need to learn what they have to improve in order to succeed. Some are never able to get there no matter their measurables.

Personally I think he was a good pick but like most rookies he has to go prove it at this level. NFL is a different beast

Very good prospect.

And yet, measurables often make or break a player.

All of that is mostly irrelevant. There a reason his agent had him skip the shuttle and 3 cone drill at the combine.
He has average bend and change of direction that projects him to the strong side at this level.
Gary ran a 4.56 or something similar at 277. Lack of bend projects him to the SAM where he's carved out a nice career for himself.
Lawrence is going to have to add 10lbs to his frame and improve his situational awareness vs the run and play the SAM. If he can do that he can carve out a nice career for himself or he can be a Taco complaining about the dirty work wanting a 2nd contract before he earns it.

99% of people never heard of this guy until the Cowboys took him with the 23rd pick. Literally not talked about unless you "dig", before. That's what the Jones like though. They "hope" to hit. Hopefully it ends up being less Taco and more Travis Frederick. We'll see what happens.

With pass rushing, speed and power do help though, getting around the tackle quick like Micah could, like LT and D Thomas could…..if he builds his power more and works on his hands and pass rusher moves, the speed and athleticism only helps. A viscous move is starting fast to the outside and then turning the rush to power or inside on tackles who have committed to the speed rush outside. If he has the burst to get around the outside, and he works on the rest, it will serve him well.

A lot of that has to do with intelligence and drive and mindset. Taco came in with a terrible mindset and never seemed too motivated. At least Lawrence seems to want to play and learn.

How do you know this exactly? I don't disagree but just wonder what the difference is at this point?
