Is Marvin Lewis hiding something? (Commanders)

In his first year, Coach Lewis was open, and gregarious with the media and public when doing interviews and meeting him in public. Now, his interviews are often double speak, and alot of questions simply not answered. In the past, he's made statements about how a player is important to the team, everything is fine, etc., only to find the player cut during the offseason. Is that what's coming this year?

Coach Lewis has said "Chad is not going to be traded" many times. He has said " Cincinnati has not talked to any other team about trading Chad Johnson", but is this really true? Can a reporter from Washington, who cites sources, really be lying to drum up business for his paper? Has reporters from Baltimore gotten it wrong when they suggest they know Washington Commander owner Dan Snyder is proactively going after Chad? Would Chad's agent really let another team violate the rules by interfering with a player under contract, unless he really did have permission by the Bengals through backdoor channels to seek a trade, do the dirty work for them?

I don't think Marvin Lewis is as forthcoming as he appears. Maybe, the Brown family has kept him in the dark, we all know their penchant for doing things their way, and wanting to have full control over the team. I'm trying to find reasons to keep the faith in Marvin, but after this past year, it has been tough. Too many interviews with nothing to say, other than some insulting remarks, and his way to talk around the question at hand, or simply state he isn't going to answer it. I guess that's his right to do, I may even do the same thing in his position.

I guess the only thing that continues to miff me is this: Why do Bengal fans continue to go to the games, buy the gear, and now sell out every game? I'm not calling for a boycott of the team, I'd like to know what keeps Cincinnati fans coming back. Was is the teasing season when they won the division? Is it that they are on the edge of the playoffs every year (on paper)?

Check out Chad's cap hit if he's traded and then tell me if you think Marvin Lewis is lying.

What most people don't account in cap hits is that you will also use up money to find that player's replacement. If Lewis were to trade Johnson and then try and replace him with say a first round pick at WR, they'd essentially be paying about $10 million in cap space for a rookie first round WR.

I think Lewis at this point has no intentions of trading Johnson and just doesn't want things to really get out of hand.

First of all this came from a bengals site. Second why would they need a 1st round pick at WR? They have Henry and T.J. They would be fine with whoever they have behind him as a #3.

I wouldn't be suprised if Danny boy is trying to pull the trigger, he just made himself some cap space, his offense sucks, and Jerry Jones already brought in a disgruntled, star receiver, which is working out perfectly

it makes too much sense

but again as Rich has pointed out, the cap hit would be major for the Bengals

While the cap hit would be major, they can spread it out over two years by trading him after June 1st. But I suspect that they would require serious draft compensation for agreeing to accept that kind of dead money.

And yes, I do think Snyder walks the line and maybe crosses it when it comes to interfering with other teams' players. He often has dinner with agents, and who knows what they discuss during that time.

Its possible......just throwing this out there but it might just be possible that TJ and Chris Henry are able to to what they do because Chad is out there with them.

I know, probably as likely as UFOs and the grassy knoll but I really think we could be on to something if we looked here a little bit.

My brother in law is a Bengal season ticket holder. I have asked him many times what the deal is. After all there years I have yet to get a straight answer. Oh, and Marvin Lewis is on a very hot seat next season.

Two things are certain next year.

#1. Chad Johnson will blow up at some point next season and be suspended.
#2. Marvin Lewis will be looking for a new job.

i dont have official numbers, but i recall reading that his cap number is ~$6M. if he were traded before june 1st, his signing bonus accelerates his cap hit this year to ~$8M but his salary would not be counted.

the difference is therefore ~$2M. i think that is the cap hit
