Is Mike Zimmer the next Cowboys head coach?

Barring a deep run in the playoffs, it would seem that Big Mac is most assuredly done after this season. Does Jerry press the “easy button” on the new head coach designation and simply promote Zimmer? He’s a Cowboys alumnus, and probably doesn’t pose a credible threat to Jerry’s authority. Those qualities seem to be more important to him (Jerry) than fielding a playoff contender. And hey, we may no longer lead the league in penalties.

I don’t necessarily like the idea, but could see Jerry doing something like that. Your thoughts?

Yes the first game Mike falters. Mike is one missed tackle by a Detroit defender from being gone already and Quinn being HC.

If that was the plan, why did they give Zimmy a 1 yr deal?

The entire coaching staff is one 1 year deals, this tells me that it is going to be a clean slate and everybody is gone if 2024 is the disaster it is starting to look like.

My guess?? The way things appear to me as we go through this off season is Zimmer could very well be named interim coach sometime during the season. Then we will see what develops.

I would give it a 40% chance today. If the D is playing well and the O falters I put that number at 80%.

I would add that I believe only a hard nosed coach could overcome the Jones plague. So it might not be a bad thing....

He’d fit right in with the rest of the coaches this front office hires. One incapable of carrying dumb and dumber over the hump and changing the culture.

I disagree. In 2024 the Cowboys will win at least 10 games, and make the playoffs yet again. They don't need a deep run for McCarthy to get a new contract. Zimmer will get a new contract as well... as the DC.

If Sean Payton doesn't.get it together in Denver he may end up being the next Dallas coach after all.

I believe Mike (football Jesus) Zimmer is the man to lead us to the promise land. We’ve seen what McCarthy can do and he’s had 3 good teams and has 1 win to show in the playoffs. ONE. Give me Zimmer, give me discipline, give me success. Tell big Mike to go get a massage and then lock the doors and deactivate his card once he leaves.

Kraft can refer him to a really good masseuse.

These theories people come up with crack me up.
No, Zimmer is the D coordinator because he’s 1 of the very few available guys willing to coach on a 1 year contract for a lame duck head coach. If/when it doesn’t work out this year Zimmer will go back to being retired/unemployed. I mean the man is going to be 68 years old in a couple of months

Why not just end it now? If this is a disaster Big Mike will never get a head coaching job again…why would he even coach this?
