Is Miles Austin a 10 M/year receiver?

This guy has not been the same since he signed the 57M contract. I know he has been injured a lot this season, but even in last season, he barely went over 1000 yards with 7 tds. He is paid like the top 10 WRs but when was the last time he made a homerun?

Yes, I am pissed off that he did not catch the 3rd-n-5. It was catchable and he did not even try. I did not buy the excuse that he did not see it??!! I bet Joey Holley would have caught the ball and taken it to the house.

He had a spectacular start last season and then Romo went down. Kitna while he played decent doesn't have enough arm to throw the ball down the field to Austin. This year he's just been hit by injuries.

i said it in another thread, i don't like what i've seen from miles since he got paid.

all the drops, injuries, lack of effort, miscommunication with romo...i don't remember seeing any of this in miles breakout season.

i know there are some in the dallas media who say he has changed, but that might be b/c he isn't as accessible as he used to be. he didn't even talk to the media last night.

Panthers Steve Smith adjusts. He has a rookie QB and is burning it up out there.

No, he's unreliable. Part of being consistent as a WR is staying healthy. No injury prone receiver is wirth 10 mill.

That is a horrible comparison. Cam Newton is a spectacular talent and will soon be one of the elite quarterbacks. Meanwhile Austin had a 38 year old throwing to him.

I don't like at all what I've seen from Miles since he got his new contract. Injuries aside, he hasn't been nearly as sure handed and what's really alarming is it seems like he puts little effort into catching the ball anymore. That play last night he didn't even try to catch it and looked to be moving at a snails pace when he should be burning down the field. He better get it together soon or Robinson will take his job and for a lot less money.

This is the 1st year since he's been a starter that injuries have been an issue.

Nope. No doubt capable of some exciting moments, but not at all consistent enough to be the primary target and game changer you'd hope for. Whatever the reasons, his impact is not commensurate with his salary.

Austin is definitely worth his money. Unless you're counting his injuries against him.

This always happens after back:back losses. Just because some stuff is obviously wrong with this team, it doesn't follow that everything about it is wrong.

(yes I know you are sick of the Packer comparisons), however, I think it's interesting to see how the Cowboys compare to the Packers in terms of paying their WRs:
  • Miles Austin - 6 Years 57M (Signed in 2009) - $9.5M/year
  • Greg Jennings - 4 Years 28M (Signed in 2009) - $7.0/year
  • Jordy Nelson - 3 Years 13M (Signed last month) - $4.4/year
Interestingly, Austin's signing bonus (18M) was larger than Jordy Nelson's entire contract that he signed in October.

Where I am with this is that the Cowboys paid him like one of the top 3 WRs in the league even through, at the time, he had started only 12-13 games in his career.

If you look at his production over the past 3 years, it hasn't been deserving of $10m a year.

Okay, but where was his 2010 adjustment?

It is not just from last night's loss. He really has not had any big impact play in a long time. He played 7 games this year and average 65 yard/game. He played 16 games last season and average 66 yd/game.

Only because he's been injured this year and as I said last year he made a huge impact early and then Tony went down for the season.

Sadly, many players go this road be it delibrate or inadvertently (too comfortable). Another great example this year is Chris Johnson.

What's concerning is it doesn't look like he's fully trying anymore. Not quiting like Moss does but Miles used to give 110% and post-contract there been times where he just doesn't even try for the ball.

Jesse Holley??? Hahahaha......Holley couldn't even score when he had a 30 yard cushion on the guy in SF. Some of you fans need to really think before you press submit.

I agree. It's not just up to the player to get himself involved. The coaches have to be able to do things to help give their better players the opportunity to make plays.
