Did you even watch yesterday's game? Five catches for 36 yards? Dez was pitiful. Honestly, it should be:
1-Williams
2-Cole "the Man" Beastley
3-Harris (dude's just a playmaker, plain and simple)
4-Dez
Austin probably won't be on this team by week 9. See if they can get some d-line depth for him. If he doesn't start improving, though, they should consider outright cutting Dez.
An unequivocal yes. His chronic hamstrings are the meat of the issue and the reason why he will remain #4. He can't stay healthy. He was a liability out there on the field yesterday. One less option for Romo.
When healthy Austin is very difficult to defend in the slot. He's a handful but less so as an X or Z. He is game planned. I'd put Dez 1a and Austin 1b. His problem has become staying on the field and worthy of being a #1. He still created a situation where it took a great play to defend a TD. He just wasn't healthy last nite and they should consider sitting him until he's ready. It's a shame a healthy Austin isn't playing with Dez. Both are greater than the sum of the parts and problematic for defenses.
They drafted Williams to be an outside WR. This offense requires two fast vertical receivers to spread the field vertically. We haven't had that for awhile. Dez and Williams can be those guys with Miles in the slot. Add Escobar or Hanna to the spread 4 shotgun and you have the defense spread horizontally as well. Then you can throw in Harris and Beasley to take advantage of certain matchups esp Beasley.
