This is what I can't stand. Everyone talks about Philadelphia's offensive struggles and yet fails to give Dallas any credit. The defense was phenomal. The coverage was stout not allowing any separation for the Eagles wideouts who are talented players. Jordan Matthews is coming off a very good rookie season and was pretty much blanketed. Nelson was one of the top WR prospects. Then you still have to deal with a guy like Ertz who's emerged as a #1 tight end with the Eagles.
Our guys were flying all over the field. Shooting through gaps. Getting in Bradford's face and making him so uncomfortable to the point where he literally looked scared. Yes Murray had no running room, but why is that? Because our defensive line just overpowered their offensive line which was touted as one of the best before the season. I don't wanna hear that crap that it was more to due with the Eagles ineptness. If they're so inept why is that Atlanta couldn't stop them in the second half?
I am pretty happy with what we have seen so far from the defense, but to be honest, they haven't exceeded my expectations by any means...yet. Before the season started, I honestly felt like we would see an improved defense from last years iteration and once we get back Hardy, Gregory and McClain, we could see some of the dominance that people think they saw this past Sunday.
But against the Eagles that was more offensive and play calling ineptness on Eagles behalf then it was dominance on the defensive side the ball. The predominant reason, aside from poor coaching, poor play calling and poor quarterback play was the interior of their offensive line. Last year Philadelphia did have one of the best lines in football, but they did not return the same cast of characters this year, losing namely both their starting interior guards. From the outside looking in, it seems Chipster thought he could still get the job done with lesser talent. He is finding out the hard way you cannot. But the problems also extended to the tackles who did a poor job of sealing off lanes for Murray to run.
Don't get me wrong; I recognize the improvement we saw on defense, but that predominantly was all Sean Lee and what he brings to this defense. The trouble is when it comes to a guy's contribution like Sean Lee, most fans have a very short term memory. But the way he played Sunday was textbook Sean Lee. He has not lost a step...if anything he has added a few.
