That was in his contract, Mike wouldn’t be paid if he knocked him out. It’s pretty clear Tyson just played defense after round two.I would be willing to bet it was written into the contract that Tyson would forfeit a very large sum of money if he knocked Jake out and/or the fight didn't go 8 rounds. The way Jake kept lowering his gloves down closer to his waist over and over told me knew Tyson wasn't allowed to punish him. Why constantly be on guard if you know your opponent isn't going to attack you (or isn't allowed due to the contract) on full throttle? The way Tyson wasn't attacking much - could be stamina or age, but could also be he was ordered to follow a script or risk losing a $20 mil pay day.
Sure, Tyson is 58 and doesn't have the stamina he had 30 years ago, no one does, but the power is very likely still there. I'm 59 and can lift more weight now than I could when I was 29. It's all about maintaining a training routine.
By the way, 'senior citizenship' technically starts at age 65.
