No and no (Hey I had to reach the minimum word limit)

Oh because it is a subjective call it would cause to many issues

no it takes away the human element which makes the game great.

so if we lose, we can always blame it in the refs.

it makes me feel a little better

IT SHOULD BE ABSOLUTELY ITS CUT AND DRY. From the spot of the foul negative or positive yardage are assessed depending on who "done" it.
In no way would it be unfair if it was called and CLEARLY did not happen. then there you are.

Absolutely right, but they first need to decide what constitutes PI...since it changes from game to game.

can we have a review of this thread, because I see an ejection for it

The mods need to have an off-season meeting in the Bahamas and vote on reviews being voted in to reject threads.

I will take the donations for safe keeping for their trip......:D

I would say only make it reviewable on third down and passes of over, say, 25 yards. Granted that's probably when 90% of them are anyways...it would be stupid to be reviewing 7 yard PI calls on 2nd down.

I'd say most 3rd down passes are not close to 25 yards. Typically you aim for just getting the first down, not a big play.

Also, if your gonna make it reviewable at all(which they shouldn't IMO) then you have to let every play be reviewable. How can you argue a PI on a 1st down wasn't more important then one on a 3rd down? The fact that it is a spot foul in the NFL and not just a 15 yarder like the NCAA makes any PI very costly.

If you allow this to be reviewed, people will clamor for Holding calls to be reviewed. You don't want to open this can of worms up.The fact is the refs get the calls right a lot more than us fans credit them.

If the playoffs weren't single elimination I would be against all review, but the way it is now...one bad call can end your season. We need as much review as we can get.

I wish it had been reviewable when Fred Swearingen (sp?) threw threw a P.I. flag against Mark Washingoton in one of our Super Bowls against Pittsburgh in the 70's. If it had been, we'd have one more Super Bowl title and the Squealers would have one less.

That call went against Benny Barnes and favored the beloved  Lynn Swann I believe. :puke:

Terrible call anyway and Rozelle said as much in private to Benny.

Well...I've heard good arguments from both sides of the debate.

On the one side, I would hope that on the one penalty that probably has decided the outcome of more games, there should be some sort of rule which allows the line judge or the ref who has who has the best position on the play to be able to overturn or challenge the decision of the ref who made the call if he was in a worse position or view. I've seen this scenario happen way to often. Instead of the Coaches having to "Challenge" the call, the refs could use Instant Replay and if it was clearly one way or the other, the call could be reversed.

On the other hand, how many long runs or pass completions that may very well have been game changers, be called back for other "Judgment" calls such as holding. The main difference here being that most refs would not make such call such as holding with the game clearly in the balance for fear of being in the position to justify the call and not wanting to be blamed for a refs decision to call such a penalty that decided the game.

One thing is for sure though. As the game gets faster and faster, more motion, speed and power is displayed, not to mention the money at stake, the more that refs are going to be in ever increasing difficulty of having to make calls that require judgment on something that they may not be as sure as they once would have been.

Are you sure? I as thinking Washington, but it might have been Barnes. I certainly remember going nuts when the flag was thrown and especially after I saw the replay. Horrible call. It cost us dearly.

I've wanted PI to be reviewable for years. On any pass play that would result in a first down at least.

Then again, I want a flag for the head coaches to use once a half to point out an obvious penalty for review that the officials miss. Case in point, the clipping penalty that should have been called on the first half TD interception in the Super Bowl two years ago. I think that any one play should be reviewable if the penalty can be called.

And for those complaining about the length of the game, it's not in the reviews, the length is determined by the commercials. Every change of possession in the first half gets commercials. Not so in the second half. Penalties and passing stretch a half out more than an extra commercial that was going to air anyways. Those who watch the RedZone channel know this as some games are starting the 3rd quarter when others are just starting half time.

Fans will not complain about time if the game is officiated to a higher quality.

What a foolish pie in the sky desire.

The refs are human. You won't be getting, all of the sudden, lhigher quality officiating. If they could just click the switch and make it happen the NFL would.
Yeah and if the teams executed perfectly there would not be penalties.

Getting chided by a racist who missed the point entirely. This is the high point of the day. I cannot remember why I haven't put you on ignore....until now.
