In the two games where Paul P was instituted the new DC, we gave up 22 and 19 points. Reasonable by NFL standards.

We've also given up a lot of yards in the air. Nevetheless, we haven't had any back breaking plays against us.

Let's just say we play at this same level each week for the rest of the year ... where we limit the points to around 20 but give up a ton of yards. If JC returns as HC, does Paul P remain the DC?

I never liked him at Syracuse where he never took advantage of some amazing recruiting and talent.

But so far, I'm giving him a 3/4 thumbs up.

I think he may be too conservative and that will catch up to us at some point.

It will.

We might get a good 2011 out of him, but after that the frustration will drive us insane.

We all know that our secondary is a big problem; we've also got other defensive problems. If our safeties were better, Newman was healthy & Jenkins played like last year, then our defense would be better. Of course it would also help if we consistently brought pressure on the QB.

If Garrett is selected to be our next HC, will be interesting to see what coaching changes he will want. Do believe he'll keep WR Sherman & got no problem with ST coach. But rest of the coaching staff is another matter. Of course Garrett knews all these guys so maybe he believes he can get the best from them. OTOH, I really think he needs bring in a young, smart & very aggressive DC.

I think we get a new DC next year. I wouldn't be surprised if Herring is the only one brought back off the defensive side.

I suspect Garrett will want a DC who is more innovative and brings in more zone blitzes ala Dom Capers.

He follows the Bill Parcells philosophy of "Bend - Don't Break" D.

We've bent over a ton, but have yet to break.

Nothing dazzling, but so far so good. But why do I have a feeling some of us will be calling for a Wade Philips style of D soon.

Oh man !!!!

I feel it is just too early to tell, never been a fan of the 3-4, but right now that is what the D is built for. Don't know what his backgroung,
is 3-4 Vs. 4-3.

Hope the Chargers don't make the playoffs and fire Norv and his staff. Ron Rivera is your guy.

I'd love Rivera - he has done a very good job over there in SD.

Unfortunately, I think Norv survives the axe and he stays put.

That's what I'm afraid of. I see us giving up more yards than what we are even gaining Today, the LIONS gained 338 yards to our 265.

Yes we won on the scoreboard and that is all that matters, but like you said, it WILL catch up to us.

These past two weeks we have had little blessings....both provided by McCann. Will that continue? We can hope so, but it's a little bit unrealistic to hope for INT TD's and PR TD's every game.

I didn't enjoy their 10 conversions on thrid down either.

There's alot to be happy with these past two weeks, but for me, defense isn't one of them yet.

For what seemed like most of the game today, the O wasn't making me very happy either....

After that first drive, we had a couple of 3 and outs, a fumble, a 3 and out, a safety, etc.. Defense helped with that fumble recovery in which we didn't have to go to far.

We really only had a couple of nice drives today.

The bottom line is that there is plenty to work on in such a short week. I just hope that we match up better against the Saints, although that is a tall task...for both this week and the week after.

The only reason he got the job is necessity and in his only chance in the NFL the Dolphins got rid of him after ONE year. So no, I do not want Paul D to be the DC and to be honest if Garrett gets the job the only coach I want back 100% is Sherman, the rest I could do without.

He's done a good job with what he has to work with so far. Bend but not break is about the best way to play these guys. I'm really happy to see the defense creating some turnovers for a change.

However, if someone better is available in the offseason, then that person should be hired. The same goes for all of the staff.

Um, getting rid of Parcells' 3-4 philosophy was the biggest factor in hiring Wade Phillips, who runs a more attack style scheme but is known for hanging a secondary out to dry.

Not sure about you but the last two games was a defense I've seen before.

Gonna need to see alot more.

He made some good 2nd half adjustments today though.

We have some holes that need to be fixed though, and there's probably nothing he can do about those right now. Our safety play is just atrocious and is a big handicap to the pass defense.

The pass rush needs more juice too.

But in two weeks he's done some positive things. We'll see some stiffer tests the next few weeks though (Brees, Manning, red hot Philly offense)

I've heard a couple different reports that Pasq will be Garrett's DC if Garrett survives the interim tag. Don't know how reliable that info is.

I certainly have my doubts about the guy but I also am loving that this D despite giving up yards is creating some TO's and generally giving our offense and its considerable weapons a chance to win the game.

I'd rather have someone who won't leave any doubt. There aren't many years left to experiment with. Sure, if he handles the offensive juggernauts that we have coming up, then we could all change our minds, but for now I want someone with a better resume.
