Is Peyton Manning finished?

There's a clothes shop near me which, from time to time, sells cheap NFL jerseys - they are the real deal, not imitations. They generally only have a large volume of 2-3 types of jersey in stock at any time and its always a jersey thats out of date due to player retirement/moving team:

e.g. over the last couple of years they've had Bulger/Rams, Cutler/Broncos, Hasselbaink/Seahawks, Vick/Falcons.

Was passing the shop today and they had a load of Peyton Manning Colts jerseys - they even had a display of them in the window.

So, someone in NFL merchandising must have taken a decision to dump a load of cheap Manning stuff as they think he's finished?

It's possible. He's had two serious neck surgeries this year and has been having issues every since. He had to have the second one cause even after the first one he still didn't have the proper feeling in his arm.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was forced to retire from something like this. It would be an absolute shame, as it always is when someone gets injuried and is forced to retire, but it wouldn't be at all surprising.

Too early to say. Let's see how he plays next year or late this year. The dumbest thing to do is write off one of the NFL's alltime great players.

I believe he is done and if he comes back, he's a fool.

I really hope not. He's my favorite non-Cowboys player of all time.

If you see any old Cowboys jerseys, let us know!
BTW,how far east of the Atlantic are you?

I was always wondering about the idea that he was going to be ready for the start of the season. When you start having surgery on your spine, that's pretty serious business.

Yeah he's probably done, judging by what the Colts need him to do to carry that offense. He could still be a heck of a bus driver for a team with a great running game but that's not the Colts offense

Usually, quarterbacks like Manning, Brady, actually don't sell a lot of jerseys. The reason is that they've been in the NFL for so long that by this point, people who wanted to buy a Manning or Brady jersey already have one.

I don't think he is.

Plenty of players have come back from the same thing.

I think he'll be back and it he is isn't, it'll be a shame he didn't get to go out on his own terms.

A lot of players HAVE NOT come back from this; especially older ones. And very few of those that came back had two prior surgeries.

Yeah, no one I know who has had back surgery has come back to the level they were before. Multiple surgeries? Odds, and prognosis, are not good.

It may not be going out on the terms Manning would like, but the utter collapse of the Colts really does accentuate how much he meant to the team's success.

I`ve had 3 major neck surgeries and 2 major back surgeries , along with about 20 minor fixes between the two. I know first hand that the chances of Manning coming back is slim. Most the time , surgery may solve one major problem , but several smaller problems will appear. Manning can try to come back , but the chances of him reinjuring himself are very high. When you deal with the back or neck , all injuries are major. He could end up like me , any fall or hit could put him in a wheelchair. I have to be very carefull just living a normal life, but he will have to worry about hits from 300lb linemen.

Hard to say without knowing what was wrong and what procedure he had. If he doesn't have congenital stenosis of the canal and his problems were resolved with the surgery AND he is fully functional then he can come back next year.
