or does is it come from within the player? once this season ends, jason's number one focus should be do whatever it takes to make this team a more physical team. way too many soft guys on both sides of the ball. john fox would fix that immediately on the defense. as far as the offensive line idk.

Compared to when Wade coached the team, the Cowboys look like a Lombardi coached team under Garrett.

true, but there are still issues in the secondary with tackling. also imo the dline has been getting pushed around more since wade got canned.

Cornerbacks are never going to tackle like linebackers. You have to have reasonable expectations.

That said I do think that this team could be a little more physical at times and they certainly could have started the season off in better shape. I don't know if you can teach physicality...but you can practice it.

I think the saying you play how you practice is true in this instance. If you are not physical and is just playing patty cake in practice then that how you are going to play in the game.

It's great Garrett makes them "pad up" on Wednesdays but I think they should atleast 2 day a week. I know they're worried about injuries but dang it, it's football. I may be wrong but judging how physical New England and Pittsburgh even Baltimore are they probably go full speed more than once a week in practice. If they don't, I have no idea how they get their players to play as physical as they do unless they constantly preach it.

hey basedgawd this is off topic but does your name have anything to do with lil b?

Only to a certent extent.

Really though, it all comes down to the individual players. Do they have a "Fight" or "Flight" personality?

Judging from that final drive from the eagles yesterday to win the game, I'd say several of our defenders were trying to fly out the hole in the roof.

that's what im saying. if they have been playing soft their whole career (ex: newman), how can one offseason of physical practices change all those bad habits? new players are needed.

you may be on to sometime i just can't put my finger on it:look:

No, just look at Bobby Carp. No amount of coaching could make him hit anyone.

Usually, if they don't bite when they're puppies, they aren't going to bite.

Yes it is teachable IMO. You just have to have the right coach and mentality.
Bill Parcells. The minute he left, this team softened up. I don't think it's much of a coincidence, there are a lot of the same players around.

it sure can. its all about your approach and mentality. both can be coached and taught.

It's all a personality thing.

There are some guys who are just crazy, and they are balls out all the time. They also tend to be the team leaders, and hold their teammates accountable.

There are some guys who can be physical, but feed off the really crazy guys, or their coaches in order to get them fired up, because they can't maintain that intensity on their own.

And then there are some guys who are just pansies. They skated by on being faster and stronger most of their life and never had to or wanted to fight.

More broadly, as a team, I would say you can raise or lower that level by how you practice. If you're spending all of camp "wrapping up" or simulating tackling rather than actually popping, well then you're just not going to be as ready for that contact once the real stuff starts as someone who did.

I wonder when the word physicality became such a such a household word. About a year ago was first used and now you hear it everywhere. I just think it's funny how things become a trend.

It's obvious that our team is more physical than underweight Phillips so must be true.

LOL basedgawd for life. I thought I was one of the few Oakland members. Bay Area or not, I rep that :starspinfor life

It can be taught, .. remember towards the end of boot camp in 'Full Metal Jacket', .. they beat that big guy with socks with bars of soap inside. It changed his demeanor.

A few of our guys need that. :laugh2:

Seriously, I end up watching a lot of Steeler games because it's all that's on around here, .. their defense is an attitude. They want to crush you, and they want it to hurt. They bring it every play.

I admire that attitude.
