Is playing defense rocket science?

With pro football being a year round sport and with the OTA's and training camp, how can this defense not know what their assignments are on a consistent basis. I'm getting tired of seeing NFL Network and ESPN analysts point out all of our mental mistakes and total lack of technique. And Wade has acknowledged as much in his press conferences. Last year he said the defense was too complicated for them so he was forced to go to more basic packages. Now this year he said he wanted to be aggressive against Tampa Bay but we made too many mistakes on our run blitzes. Against the Giants he wanted our corners to play man so we could blitz and keep the linebackers involved in the running game but our corners consistently played the wrong technique and it wasn't just Scandrick and Jenkins.

The guys making the mistakes are not rookies and most have been in Wade's system three years now. What is the problem? It's not rocket science. Either our players have a very low IQ or our defensive coaching staff is the worst in the league.

You hit the nail on the head. Now most of these players have graduated with college honors and degrees. So, that leaves out lack of IQ.

Next, football isnt rocket science, look at the jets, they had a new head coach ryan that said he was worried in OTAs and training camp that his complex system might be too much for the jet players. Yet, the players wanted to be the best and they wanted to win. So, they buckled down, studied and hit training camp hard.

You have seen the results the last 2 games with the new york jets.

Now think about this, we dont hit and tackle in training camp and we dont wear pads too much, we run around in shorts flexing out muscles and showing off. Or we walk through practices, being shown plays, but we dont run them full speed.

Next, what did wade say after the tampa bay game where the defense was run all over against the running game by tampa bay. Well, i tried to use mulitple blitzes, but the players couldnt get it down, so we had to go back to base defense.

It was mostly my fault, because i didnt run blitz combinations packages with dogs etc during training camp and practices because i didnt want to get players hurt. When you blitz in practices etc, you tend to get players hurt.

Now, look at our offense, ran by jason garrett, the offense has scored over 30 points a game last 2 games, and last game was against a very good defense with the giants. Our special teams have improved under Joe D.

So, think about that, our offensive players are doing their job, our special teams are doing their job.

Yet, who is in charge of the defense. You got it right good ole wade.

Now, what do you think?

Most college players are given degrees (does not mean anything). In fact, many of them are dumber than a bag of rocks.

You did nail the assessment on the coaching of our offense, special teams, and defense.

The real interesting thing to observe so far this season is how much better the special teams are becoming with a good coach (DeCamillis).

It makes you wonder how good the defense could potentially be with a good coach.
