Is Stephen too cheap to keep Zack?

for years and years we have learned that Jerry won’t lose someone he wants to keep. Sometimes that meant overpaying but we kept them nonetheless. But what about Stephen? The longer this plays out with Zack should we worry it won’t get done? I don’t blame Zack at all, the longer he waits the more the price goes up. But will Stephen pay it? Or will he try to outsmart everyone by letting him walk and collecting the high comp picks?

Zack will be back.

We have had quite a bit of bloated contracts on this team. We have no problem with paying our own guys their second contract as long as they aren’t a RB.

We will try to get a fair deal but I’m sure Zack wants to be back playing with his brothers on the OL as much as Dallas wants him back.

I fail to see why we wouldn't retain our own stud players, with no blemishes on his record?
Their motto has been no big outside FAs so they can pay their own.

Talking about a guard who has been an All Pro since entering the league. 2x 1st team, 2x 2nd team

I'm not a huge fan of having almost an entire line full of linemen on top 5 contracts at their positions but I don't think they'll let ZM walk.

I agree, the O line is our bread and butter.Z.Martin will get resigned.

Im sure Zack will get paid. I would say that the reason they havent offered him a new contract is the team is just freeing up cap space and is probably trying to work out a deal with Lawrence. There will be plenty of money for Zack after the 2018 season and they can just franchise him to make sure they get something if he wants to leave or another team wants to over pay for him.

Nope, we've worked too hard to build the OL, he knows he can't let that go. Now, I could see them letting a guy like Smith go st some point if he can't stay healthy.

The concept of letting players walk for comp picks is silly
If you don’t want to pay a player you trade him for a pick
That said Zach will be signed
And if you listen to Stephen he even talked about signing their own yesterday

I totally agree we should keep him. Just wondering if Stephen is the type that will have a certain number in his head that he thinks a position is worth and won’t want to “overpay”

I certainly hope that's the case. I want to keep Martin but there's an entire roster to consider.

it sure is taking a long time I hope he gets signed and I know what Stephen says but makes one wonder

They don't need cap space to sign Martin or even Lawrence for that matter. Extensions would reduce their cap hits this year, so that isn't the issue. Lawrence I can understand the hesitation given his injury history and sporadic performance, but I don't understand holding off on Martin at all. He's worth the money.

Zack Martin and his agent are playing hard ball......its not necessarily the FO doesn't want to extend him.

Both sides are playing hardball. Martin and his agent understandably want his deserved money. Stephen doesn't want to pay market price. It's why I noted he's worth the money.
